Back in the Energy Drinks Game after a Brief Absence

Well I have been away from the energy drinks game for a bit as I have been busy building my first house and because I had some website issues. I would like to say thanks to all the energy drink companies that have sent me their products over the years because boy did they EVER come in handy. Being my own general contractor on top of working 10 hour days, going to the gym and trying to have a life can really take a toll on a fella... Anyways a couple noticeable things since I posted my last Energy Drink Review a couple months ago.

First off it appears that 5-Hour Energy, of which I have claimed to be madly in love with in the past and one of my favorite Energy Shots has decided to go International... Looks like their first steps across the pond are to include ventures into the UK , Ireland and Nederlands. This is great for me because the last time I went to Ireland I could only bring a couple shots due to the liquid carry on regulations from the TSA. Check out their new sites below:

United Kingdom and Ireland - 5-Hour Energy Available Now

Nederlands - 5-Hour Energy Available Now

Energy Drinks and Alcohol, a subject I had touched on back in 2007, still seems to be a hot button issue. Looks like both Michigan and Washington State have decided to ban the sale of energy drinks that contain alcohol. CNN has picked up the story here.

In other news Monster and Rockstar have unleashed a plethora of new drinks to the market, all of which I will try and review shortly. Normally, I really wouldn't pay too much heed to the new offerings and would focus my efforts on the more obscure and occult drinks, but over the years both Monster and Rockstar have added some pretty good products.

Since my last review there have been at least another 100 energy products released into the market. So even though I have reviewed almost 400 different energy related products now, I have what seems a never ending supply to keep me occupied. So cheers to all those that have read my reviews in the past and cheers to the next 400!!! Enjoy the weekend and stay tuned for the newest review shortly!

9-2-5 Energy Shot Sponsors Two-Time Defending Champion English Rugby Team and Expands Distribution to Belgium

News Release

9-2-5 (“Nine-to-Five”) Energy Shot Sponsors Two-Time Defending Champion English Rugby Team and Expands Distribution to Belgium

North Somerset, England, August 25th, 2009 – Enerbev is proud to announce a key supply agreement with the Gloucester Rugby Club.

After extensive testing by the coaching staff, Enerbev was asked to supply 9-2-5 Energy shot to the team for this season to boost energy and focus during their intense matches.

Gloucester Rugby Club was established in 1873 and is regarded as one of the top teams in the United Kingdom having won the Premiership back to back in both the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons.

In addition to the sponsorship news, Enerbev is also product to announce that 9-2-5 Energy Shot is now giving Belgium more energy. Following successful trials in the Spring of 2009, 925 Energy Shot is now being rolled out throughout Belgium. Robert Dortu, the 925 distributor, said “the reaction has been amazing; the early trials in gas stations and independent stores shows the Belgian public just love 925 and can not get enough of it. Plus of course with the strategic location of Belgium, just about every truck movement in Europe goes through our country at some point so we are bound to spread the word all over Europe very quickly.”

Enerbev is now active in the UK, Ireland, Sweden and Belgium and is shortly launching in Germany. 925 was launched in the UK in the Summer of 2008 as the first “energy shot” in the UK and Europe. Since that time, Enerbev’s 9-2-5 energy shot became the first energy shot to be produced in Europe, and Enerbev has led the way in developing this exciting new concept in the European market.

In addition to its own brands (9-2-5 and Player-Aid), Enerbev is also working with a number of leading energy drink brand owners to facilitate their entry into the shot sector.

For more information on 9-2-5 Energy Shot, please visit www.925energy.com. For information on ordering product in Belgium, please contact Robert Dortu, Rodosa bvba, Tel: 00 32 474 89 3221.

For distribution, sales, artwork, consulting, or additional information, please contact either of the following:

1) Europe = Mark Todd +44 1934 835002 mark@925energy.com

2) USA = Kevin Gardner 972-818-6025 Ext. 101 kevin@925energy.com

Censored Energy Drink

That's right the folks at Redux Beverages have re-released the Cocaine Energy Drink under the name Censored (nice little Jab at the FDA I might add). This all takes place shortly after it was pulled from shelves due to increased pressure from the FDA and state regulators as they claimed the slogans Redux Beverages were using to market the drink were illegal. Check out the full article on the Banned Cocaine Energy Drink. Was the FDA overstepping its bounds by initially banning Cocaine? Opinions will differ on that one but renaming to Censored Energy Drink was just great marketing.

So what did the FDA and State Regulators accomplish? Well sure they forced the little guy to change his name to Censored Energy Drink, in turn bringing down tons of criticism on themselves and giving Redux Beverages tons of free press. Yeah Redux lost some product, but they should make that up in no time with all the free press. They even got a jab in at the FDA by renaming the drink to Censored. They should also get a jab in by just writing Censored over the cans original name and keeping the can design exactly the same. Well maybe they should remove the slogans that brought the heat down on them. Other wise by renaming the drink censored and by using the exact same can design I think Redux Beverages stuck it to the man on this occasion instead of vice versa. I would not be surprised if the Censored Energy Drink started flying off shelves even faster than the initial release of Cocaine.

Looks like the drink will have the same ingredients it did before; including the whopping 280 milligrams of caffeine. I wonder if it will still have that throat numbing sensation? Well if I find out that any of the ingredients changed I will do another Energy Drink Review on the Censored Energy Drink. In the meantime if you want to know what the beverage tastes like check out the original Review Here.

As always feel free to chime in with your thoughts on the subject matter at hand.

Spike Shooter - An Energy Drink Gone too Far?

Spike Energy Drink
The Spike Shooter energy drink, made by Biotest Laboratories, has been banned from a local school in Colorado when several students got sick after drinking it. One was even diagnosed with a caffeine overdoes. Even 7-11 stores have pulled the Spike Shooter Energy drink off of shelves. Now was Spike Shooter banned (pulled) for a good reason? Are energy drinks going to far by putting in too much caffeine?

I finally got around to the Spike Shooter Review

Too Much Caffeine?
You might have heard of the Cocaine Energy Drink containing a lot of caffeine but Spike Shooter contains even more caffeine. Well the Cocaine Energy Drink has 280 milligrams of caffeine in 8.4 ounces, whereas the Spike Shooter Energy drink has 300 mgs in the same 8.4 ounces. Well 300 milligrams of caffeine is roughly equivalent to 3 cups of coffee in one 8.4 ounce can - so is that too much? If not where do we draw the line?

Well being a energy drink fanatic I love my caffeine and regularly consume energy drinks! However, I don't think adding more and more and even more caffeine is the best idea. I usually like strong energy drinks, but the more energy ingredients you add to the equation, usually the worse the drink tastes. I think there comes a time when enough is enough. I tried the Cocaine Energy Drink and I definitely noticed the overwhelming caffeine aftertaste. I have yet to try Spike Shooter, so I can not say if the caffeine will be too much, but with 20 mg more than the Cocaine Energy drink it just might be.

Buy Spike Shooter Here

Ban Spike Shooter or Put Age Limit on Purchasing Energy Drinks?
Basically it comes down to whether or not there should be an age limit when purchasing energy drinks. Personally I don't think Spike Shooter should be banned, but it might not be a bad idea to have an age limit on
Energy Drinks over a certain dose of caffeine. I am not a parent yet, but I definitely would not want to come home after a long day of work to have my 12 year old wired to the gills on 300 milligrams of caffeine. But then, would this ban then also apply to coffee places like Starbucks? Some Starbucks drinks have more caffeine than energy drinks? This could be a touchy subject, so what does everybody else think? I know I will eventually try and write up a review on it.

Jimi Hendrix Liquid Experience Energy Drink

Jimi!
Alright I am a huge fan of energy drinks but I am pretty upset about a new one called Liquid Experience Energy Drink that is being advertised using an Image of Jimi Hendrix. He is one of rock's greatest guitarists and he does not need to be used as an advertising gimmick for some start up energy drink company like Beverage Concepts. But the real tragedy is not that Beverage Concepts is using Hendrix's likeness on their Liquid Experience Energy Drink, its the fact that whoever is controlling Hendrix's interests is profiting from exploiting him. Whoever it is, maybe Michael Jackson, should stop doing this so other generations can remember Hendrix for what he was, a Guitar Legend, not some guy on an energy drink.

Must be 18 to Buy Energy Drinks?

I just read an article from Fox21.com saying that people are getting carded for buying energy drinks like BooKoo, Tab and the Chaser 5 Hour Energy Drink.

I am not a parent and Energy Drinks were a fledgling market when I was under 18 but I tend to agree with the carding of people under 18 when it comes to buying energy drinks. If I was a parent I would not want my kid to be all hyped up on caffeine when I get home from work. I don't know about any studies of energy drinks and
harmful effects in the long term, but I assume that they would be relatively addictive just like coffee. I mean I can't go a day without an energy drink just like my parents can’t go a day without their coffee but then again coffee was not made to entice children. I think I just had a brainstorm. Nope lost it.

This is not a law right now, but the way things are going it looks like it might be regulated in some way. What do you guys think about setting an age limit on buying energy drinks? I do agree with what the stores are doing, but I don't think it should be made into law. Let the parents decide.
