Well if you are reading this review you have probably already heard of one of my favorite Energy Drinks, that being the 5 Hour Energy Drink. Why is it one of my favorites? Well it packs an incredible kick into a tiny little 2 ounce portable bottle. So if it packs such a great kick, why are they introducing an extra strength 5 Hour Energy? Well since you see 5-Hour Energy at almost every convenience store / gas station you may have noticed the multitude of energy shots coming in promising 6,7 and even 8 hours of energy. Well I have tried some of these and the promises of 6,7 and 8 hours of energy are pretty much marketing hype. Nonetheless, they are out there which led Living Essentials, the makers of 5-Hour Energy to introduce and extra strength version of their product. So let's see how it compares to the original in the taste and kick categories!
Extra Strength 5 Hour Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well as you may recall, 5-Hour Energy Drinks come in two flavors, Berry (original) and Lemon Lime both of which are sugar free and only contain 4 calories. The extra strength 5 Hour tastes pretty much identical to the original berry flavor. Make sure you shake before drinking, it brings the berry taste and aroma out better. Taste Rating - 8.5
Extra Strength 5 Hour Energy Drink Review: Kick
Alright so the original berry taste is still in tact, but what's all this about extra strength? Well it looks like the energy blend was upped to 2000 mg from 1870 mg (see original Ingredient List Here). The order of the energy ingredient list was jumbled around a bit as well with taurine being moved to the 1st energy ingredient. Caffeine was moved from the last ingredient to the second to last ingredient as well. The niacin dose was upped from 30 milligrams to 40 milligrams as well. The B-Vitamin level remained the same with 40 milligrams of vitamin b-6 (2000% of your daily allowance) and 500mcg of vitamin b-12 (8333% of your daily allowance). So, does it pack more of a punch than the original? Well I gave the original a kick rating of 9.5 and there is definitely a bigger dose of energy in the extra strength version. It has been over Five Hours since I consumed the extra strength version and I am still pumped full of energy. So, in my experience the extra strength version definitely packs more of a punch than the original. Kick Rating - 10!
Extra Strength 5 Hour Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
So if you are a die hard 5-hour fan like me and you are looking for even more energy from them, give the extra strength version a try. The taste is the same and the kick is improved. In my opinion they didn't need to increase the strength of the drink to combat the new 6,7 and 8 hour energy shots as the original packs a great kick, but from a marketing stand point I can see why they did it. Besides, now they have a complete product line... 2 Original Flavors, Caffeine Free Version, and of course the extra strength version. So if you need even more energy than the original five hour, give the extra stength version a try. Final Judgment - 9.7 (tons of energy!)
If you like 5-Hour Energy, it is cheaper to buy it in bulk and the cheapest place I have seen it so far is on Amazon.com.

I drank 6 of these at one sitting one day just for shits n giggles and i DO NOT recommend doing this ever! My heart fealt heavy and my arms were light as a feather. My pupils dialated and I was breathing erratically. Also, the effect it had on my blood pressure was insane. I could actually watch it fluctuate.
Just for the record, I'd like to state that the main stimulating effect from this is not the B-Vitamins or Caffiene, its the N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine and L-Phenalanine. These are amino acids that readily cross the blood-brain barrier and increase dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. This is a natural way to increase the same chemicals affected by stimulants like amphetamine.
Good stuff, just tried my first. You can't beat 5 hour energy.
I bought a two-pack of the extra stengths...I took the first one on a Saturday and I didn't notice anything at all. I took the second one on a Thursday after lunch, and about an hour later, I noticed I was pretty hyper. Overall, it's okay, but I would stick to RockStar.
this product made me feel focused and confident rather than physically hyper. 5 hour energy helped me focus better in baseball.
This stuff is awesome! I have been using endorush and redline for about the last few months but they began to lose their boost with me. I switched to 5hour this morning for a wake up boost and was going from 7am till 1pm (guess I got an extra hour). Stuff is awesome and it is extremely good for focusing on a task. Now I need to start buying in bulk. Thanks for the great review. I am sold!

No energy drink/pill has EVER worked for me. That was until I tried Extra strength 5 hour energy. I took one bottle and felt awake and energetic. Took another bottle and I'm feel woooooooo! Haha.

I tried this and I felt nothing, but then again I drink coffee all day long already. I tried just drinking about half of it because I always worry about trying new things like this, especially caffeine-related ones, like those Stackers that they figured out caused heart attacks and such. But it didn't do anything for me. The best thing I ever found was the medication, Phentermine, for weight loss, the new improved without the heart causing ingredient. Talk about speed. I had to write things down just to be able to keep up with my thoughts, lol.
Anyways, regarding this, I swear I believe it was putting me to sleep, but am happy for those of you it works for, :)

I just went from a part time job (18 hours a week) to a full time job (45 hours a week) and was dragging ass.
I go to the same gas station every morning for my coffee and made the comment how tired i was from all the extra hours. The lady at the station suggested I try the 5 hour energy drink. I was scared as i just got done going thru tons of chemo and i did not want to feel jittery, excited, etc.
She said, try it. SO, i did.
WOW, i love it. No jitters. Amazingly, it makes your brain clearer, makes you think better.
I did not take it first thing in the morning. I waited till mid afternoon and it gave me enough energy to get thru the day. WOW, it is midnight and it is still working without the jitters or nervousness. AMEN.

I'm not a coffee drinker at all but I'm a law student so I desperately need to stay up during finals and so forth. I took a 5 hour energy drink of Friday at 10pm and I have not went to sleep yet. It's 1:18am on Sunday and I'm still not asleep; I'm not even tired. I guess I was one of those people who should have only drank half.
I took one before working out but I didnt feel a thing. I perfer rockstar.
Every morning I drink a regular 5-Hour Energy. I do not drink coffee or soda ever, but I am a law student and average between 4-5 hours of sleep a night (no naps either). I basically live off the 5-Hour bucause I don't feel all jittery in class and I can still focus. I was scared to try the Extra Strength 5-Hour, but I definitely am going to try it after reading this review. Hopefully it'll help for those days when the regular 5-Hour just doesn't cut it. Thanks!
I have been using the 5hr. energy regular and extra strength for several months now. Usually take 1 in the morning 1st thing and one mid-afternoon. Great stuff! Never gives me the jitters just feel more energetic. Also, I run/work-out quite a bit and I usually take 1 30min. or so before the workout. Really seems to give me an extra boost. Love it, just wish it was a little less expensive!
yes i use energy supplements alot and it doest taste bqad whatsoever. tastes good.
Dude try 5150 juice! It has 500mg of caffene per ounce! It is awesome. I do like the 5hr Extra strength, too. Also, I like the Wired 505 (505mg caffene per can!) Right now, I poured a Fuel Cell 180mg caffene into a NOS w/ 280mg. I'll be rip roaring and ready to go! (If only I had ordered more 5150 juice.. I could have poured it in this NOS w/ the Fuel Cell :)
i live in germany (where it is not ideal to have a car). i walk a lot, work a lot and am a single mom. sleep is not in the cards for me. i think 5 hr tastes terrible, but its a shot. oh well, it works! im a cage cashier; when the money is counted, i get to go home. get me a shot and ill be done in an hour.
Costco sells the extra strength stuff in a 24 pack for $39.99... what a deal!
6 at one sitting? I know the B vitamins are responsible for the big kick, but too much of the B vits can become toxic. Might wanna watch that.
As for the benefits, I take a bottle at about 3pm because I hit the gym at 5 or so. I can tell you it boosts my lifts quite a bit. It last longer than 5 hours though because I've taken it right at 5pm and been laying in bed looking at the ceiling at 1am. It's never given me the jitters, but it does give you quite a boost. Best flavors are orange and lemon-lime
These things work so well it scares me lol.
Neither coffee or energy drinks do seem to do jack all for me, but these work.....so well that I literally cannot sit still if I take one!
$2.49 (cost of them in Canada) - each, seems like a lot, but it's worth if if you're dying (a coffee is just a little cheaper, and it doesn't work as well!)
I don't mind the taste of the Berry flavor, but shaking it does make it taste better. I have shopped for best bargain and Amazon is cheaper than even Costco. Best buy on Amazon is their subscribe and save price - sign up for it and it is delivered automatically as often as you need. I get two 12-packs/per month for around $34 and change and get FREE DELIVERY via UPS. The subscribe and save is great you get an addition 15% off regular Amazon price. Check it out. Best buy around - even Wal-mart is $2.68 a bottle. Ridiculous!
i tried the Feel Good7 Shots , the energy version, that is way better than 5 hour energy, did not give me the shakes or the jitter and definitely up on taste , my opion only though , ya'll might have to try for yourself
I have found a cheaper place than Amazon at Costco. You have to have a membership, but I just bought 24 for less than $40!
I've had these and they do give you energy. They actually help me stay slim too, but the real reason I'm commenting, is the first person who commented. YOU ARE AN IDIOT! Of course your going to have all of those side effects if you have six shots at one time! You're not supposed to exceed two bottles daily consumed several hours apart! You shouldn't be using it "for shits n giggles!" In fact, you shouldn't be complaining at all! You're lucky to be alive. That much caffeine can kill you! Keep that in mind the next time you're experimenting and getting high! The article on the other hand was very good and accurate!
