Low Carb Monster Energy Drink Review
Well I reviewed the original Monster Energy Drink some time ago, so this morning I thought I would try the Low Carb Monster Energy Drink. The main difference between the original and low carb versions seems to be sugar content. The Low Carb Monster Energy Drink has very little, thus keeping the calorie count to 10. So with only 10 calories and a small amount of sugar, how will the Low Carb Monster Energy Drink compare to the original? Well let's find out in the review.

Low Carb Monster Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well by taking out the sugar the drink becomes less sweet, in turn affecting how it tastes. By taking out the majority of the sugar in the Lo-Carb Monster Energy Drink, I think the formula might have actually been improved as now the citrus flavor is not quite as sweet as the original. Basically it has less of a bite than the original. There is still a slight medicinal aftertaste to the beverage, but it is no stronger than the one present in the original. Taste Rating - 8.7
Low Carb Monster Energy Drink Review: Kick
The original can pack a pretty decent punch and the Low Carb version is no different. The combination of caffeine, ginseng, guarana and B-Vitamins in a 16 ounce can delivers a good kick. The only difference between the original and lo-carb version is that the energy effects took awhile to kick in (probably because of the reduced sugar). 8.5 Kick Rating - slightly lower than the original because of the extra wait for energy.
Low Carb Monster Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Basically quite comparable to the original. It has less calories and less sugar making what I feel is an improved taste. The kick is still good, it just takes awhile to develop. Wish I would have gave the lo-carb version a try earlier. Don't be like me, give this 16 ounce blue monster a try. You might like it! Final Judgment - 8.7

Its good stuff
my names sarah & i lvu this. shits good wuddhup?!
The low-Carb Monster used to be my favorite...drink 3 a week sometimes. But, after doing some research, they have an ingredient that actually distroys the mitochondria of your cells: your own natural energy producer. The ingredient is Sodium Benzoate. Google this and you will find the research I found. Scary to think I was drinking something that was reducing my own ability to natually create energy, and thus needing this product more and more...is it by design? I doubt it, but cigaretts have addictive ingredients in them for just that reason. So, now I drink BLUE ENERGY, I buy it at the Health Food section of Fred Meyer...it has all the good stuff of Monster, just none of the Sodium Benzoate. Cheers!
Alright, I've been keeping my own collection of energy drinks and rating them myself. But I pretty much agree with your explanation on this one. I've been a frequent regular monster for quite awhile since I get it in bulk from my friend who works at meijer. Anyways, It's pretty much the exact same but I had to wait that extra long wait that this lo-carb drink has. I guess It's better for your health since the lo carbs and calories, but the guy mentioned the sodium benzonate. But to get the negative effects from that you must have to drink quite a lot of them, so thats a bunch of bullshit. Anyways, good review, good drink, the same as the regular monster but with a milder buzz
There is no sodium benzoate in these. I have a can in front of me right now.
O RLY?
Carbonated water, sucrose, glucose, citric acid, taurine, sodium citrate, color added, panax ginseng root extract, l-carnitine, maltodextrin, potassium sorbate, sodium and sulfate, caffeine, ascorbic acid, sodium benzoate, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, sodium chloride, guarana seed extract, inositol, glucuronolactone, niacinamide, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, cyanocobalamin
I drink them, quite regularly, and can agree with no problem with my natural energy pick up. I have bought several cases in the last few months....good deal at costco - and a little worried if there was a harmful side effect. So I did a little research. No real solid info - but I think anything that's not exactly natural - grows from the ground - has some sort of side-effect. It's quite tasty.
Enjoy!
To the people questioning whether there is sodium benzoate in it - it DEPENDS, on which country you're in. I have a can in front of me right now and it does not have this ingredient.
Also, on my bottle, there are some ingredients that are missing from the list that the previous poster put up. We're in different places, and we have different Food Administration boards, so obviously, contents of the can will differ.
I just tried it for the first time, and I think it is too sweet (still). Artificially so at that.
I have actually never had the full sugar variety (I try to avoid that much sugar). Someone gave this little can of energy to me in a gift package, and I thought I'd give it a try.
Overall, not bad, but I agree, it tastes like medcine!
There is NO Sodium Benzoate (NaC6H5CO2)in low carb monster, there is benzoic acid ((C7H6O2 (or C6H5COOH). Different compounds with similar names.
Regarding mixing with alcohol...
I know those of you who are cultured may be outraged by this, but I find that this drink comes alive when mixed with cognac (Hennessy). Alchemy-wise, something magical seems to happen; I wonder if anyone would agree.
As to the sweetness, I have the opposite experience. With a blind taste test, the lo-carb version tastes sweeter, and also, slightly better.
This is the first lo-carb "anything" that I have preferred. However, I hear that they only have the normal variety at Cosco, so to be cheap, I think I will stock up on the normal variety the next time I am there.
PS. DON'T TRY TO MAKE A JÄGER BOMB WITH THIS STUFF, stick to the traditional Red Bull on that one lol...
I have never tried the origional monster. My introduction to the energy drink world was through the lo-carb monster. At first it tasted horrible(it is an aquired taste after all). But the kick and energy I felt afterwards soon persuaded me to give it another shot. Now I can't go through the week without stopping at the store at least one time to get my energy fix on my way to school.
there is no sodium benzoate in LOW CARB monster. even in the ingredients you listed it's obvious that you're using the normal monster that's loaded with sugar as well (proof: the second ingredient in your list is sugar). I love how the sodium benzoate you have in bold isn't even on the can i'm holding in my hand.
