Energy Drink Ratings Explained
essn Energy Drink Review
Well this would be my first Organic Energy Drink that I have reviewed in quite some time. The last one I reviewed was the Steaz Energy Drink. I definitely applaud the idea of a healthy organic energy drink, it just has to pass my criteria of tasting good and giving a good kick. If the essn Energy Drink can do those two things than I will be happy. Besides, who wouldn't want a healthy alternative to the normal sugar induced energy drinks, especially if the produce the same or better results. So let's see how the Organic essn Energy Drink performs in the taste and kick categories.
essn Energy Drink Review: Taste
Before I get into taste I want to say that the essn 12 ounce slim can proudly displays the word "Organic." What does this mean? This means that there are no preservatives and no other ingredients that you can't pronounce in this drink. Also, instead of sugar or sugar substitutes, essn uses organic cane sugar. Doing all this gives you a much healthier energy drink than the normal mass market ones. Why did I tell you all this organic info? Well first off it is healthier as I stated above and second, when I hear the words organic I usually cringe when it comes to tasting that product. However, fortunately for me essn Energy has quite a unique tasting drink. The description on the can is "Pomegranate Lime Flower." So what does this taste like? Well it tastes like a berry flavored green tea with a hint of lime. Yeah, an unusual combination but the result is quite refreshing. Taste Rating 8.7
essn Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well a refreshing and unique kick, but will the organic energy ingredients provide enough of a kick to satisfy me? Well the list of energy ingredients includes 240 milligrams of Guarana Extract (organic), 360 milligrams of Brazilian Yerba Mate and a plethora of B-Vitamins. So the kick was actually pretty fast acting and lasted a relatively long time (3 hours). On top of this essn energy also contains EGCG, which studies have shown can reduce the risk of four of the major health problems: stroke, heart failure, cancer and diabetes. So you get a solid kick with no jitters, no sugary crash all while fighting some major health concerns. Checks out in my book. Kick Rating - 9.0
essn Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Unique taste, all organic, contains EGCG and supplies a healthy kick. What else could I like about this drink? Well the fact that the price is $1.99. A lot of "organic" products jack up the price because they like taking advantage of all the health nuts. They have the motto "it's good for you therefore you should have to pay us more for it." Well I hate that, why should I have to pay more to live a healthier life? Enough with the rant! Thanks essn for keeping the price on par with the competition. Final Judgment - 8.9
Side Note: I would love to see more organic energy beverages from essn but this is the only one at present time. However, if you enjoy organic drinks, essn also offers a line of non-energy juices.

I had the opportunity of talking to one of their representative at a Costco while they were sampling the stuff. She claimed that the prod had no caffeine. I told her that Guarana and Yerba Mate are known for their caffeine content, she stated that since they are organically grown they have no caffeine (WTF does that mean?) Then she went on to mention that Red Bull derives it's taurine, which is also a stimulant, from the testicles of bulls hence the name Red Bull. I explained to her that taurine is not a stimulant but actually helps prevent jitteriness when our central nervous system is overly stimulated as can occur with caffeine, it has been demonstrated to lower the blood pressure. Her ignorant regurgitation was that in drinks such as Red Bull it has stimulant properties.
Shame on you essn for having malignant dumb people pushing your liquid crack and in legal terms deceptive marketing practice.
It says OREGON TILTH certified organic. Does it make a difference?Guarana is 240mg. Does it equal to 240mg of caffeine?
the first comment: you were right, she was an stupid and ignorant chick. still, i've had the drink, i know the facts. it has caffeine, in the form of the guarana, yerba mate, and green tea. its pretty inexpensive, especially bought wholesale @ costco. The taste is different, strange, but pretty good. it grows on you. i dont seek out organic, but thats a plus. my friends have all tried it at my house and decided to get themselves cases using my costco account. drink this energy drink if you like good drinks.
Hey, since you konw so much about it , the comment about the sales person is not necessary, if the drink is good then nothing will change what was presented to you and people are just doing a job , has your mother ever told you if you cant't say something nice don't say anything!!!
Be Good!
"if you can't say something good, don't say anything" does not apply when you are talking about someone disseminating false information about a product that involves one's health. Calling her stupid may be crossing the line, but she was either ill informed, or purposefully deceptive. Either way, it wasn't a good thing.
people people, lets calm down. It's a good drink and it has great ingredients. Don't take nutritional advice from an $9 an hour sales person. She probably just finished a can of the stuff before she blurted all that bs to you...
stay well.
From Albuquerque, NM: I bought a case of Essn from Costco and loved it. I did find the whole can more gently stimulating than I needed. It kept me up way past bedtime if I had a whole can anytime in the afternoon. Half a can does very well. I did not find the effect jittery despite the amount of caffine. It wss a smooth energy lift for me with a good mental focus.
I find many times the ladies at Costco are not all that informed. I gently tell them that my experience about the info is different and let them know what I know about it. Some are gracious and accept the information. I also read the labels of the products before trying them. They often do not know what is in the product they offer. But then the general public does not investigate what is in what they buy and eat. But to call the nice old ladies at Costco names does not do them justice. I talk to them and most are retired and supplementing their incomes by standing for hours giving us things to eat and drink.
