Function Alternative Energy Drink Review
Today I will be reviewing an Energy Drink that is slightly different than the normal ones that I review. First off the Function Alternative Energy Drink is All-Natural and has a time release formula. This time release formula seems pretty complicated, but is supposed to last 6-8 hours, or supply you with energy for 6-8 hours without any spikes or crashes. I wish I could tell you more about the function of "the time release" blend, but after reading the website I found it hard to follow. From what I gather the Function Alternative Energy Drink uses 4 classes of pharmacokinetics to enhance mood and energy. Pharmacokinetics is the rate at which a dietary supplement is absorbed into the body. The 4 classes that Function uses take effect sequentially. This is how they supply you with that 6 to 8 hours of sustained energy. I hope I got that right, if you want to read more about it, take a look at their website, they seem to explain the whole process quite well. Again, I am not positive if I got the explanation of how the Function Alternative Energy Drink works right, so I will just let you know in my own words if it works as it is supposed to! Function Alternative Energy Drink Review: Taste
Before we get to the "kick review" lets discuss the also important taste category. Function Alternative Energy labels it's taste as Tangerine-Yuzu. Well I am not sure what Yuzu is but I know what a tangerine is. Usually the Tangerine is a pretty sweet citrus flavor, but in this case it was not as sweet. This is probably because I am used to artificial tangerine flavors topped with sugar or artificial sweeteners. Well there is neither in this drink, but there is cane extract which is better for you than both the aforementioned. So what does it taste like. Well it tastes like a flavored water or vitamin water. This may sound bad, but it actually is not. The flavor was quite refreshing. Although it is not what I am used to, as most energy drinks I review contain sugar or artificial sweeteners, I was more than pleased with the flavor of Function Alternative energy. Taste Rating - 8.5
Function Alternative Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well the flavor was refreshing and so was the boost of energy I received. I could not tell when the boost "kicked in" as there was no big surge of energy. However, throughout the day I continued to feel refreshed long after I had finished consuming Function. It has been roughly 5 hours since I finished function and I still feel uplifted. So yeah I would have to say 6 - 8 hours of uplifting energy is possible. For energy ingredients it looks like their is caffeine, Guarana Extract and Yerba Mate. There might be other "energy" ingredients but I am not sure what all the other natural extracts are. Kick Rating - 8.9
Function Alternative Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Refreshing seems to sum up both the taste and kick for this beverage. It was a pleasure to review this 16.9 ounce "out of the ordinary" energy drink. The only place I know that you can buy it is online and at Whole Foods. It is worth giving a try, especially with the $1.69 price tag. In my opinion it would be a great drink to have early in the morning or before a workout, as a refreshed feeling comes in handy in both instances. Oh I would also like to see other flavors developed! Final Judgment - 8.8

I live in Southern California, and I love Alternative Energy. It's definitely not your 'everyday energy drink' in terms of taste, calories, or carbonation, but if you're looking for a change from those energy drinks - I think AE is great. They are selling it at Equinox gym - I'm a huge believer of a half bottle before working out!!
I am utterly obsessed with this alternative energy. I gave up on coffee and redbull because they made my stomach hurt. This has no such effect and just goes and goes. For hours. Don't start unless you're ok with not stopping.
I totally agree with the review. This drink gets me through every day in Los Angeles!! I can't drink it past 4pm though-- insomnia. I also have triathlete friends that use it as their secret weapon. I used to be a Red Bull drinker but have now switched.
So many great things have been said so far that I have little to add! Hahaha I absolutely agree that this is not your 'everyday energy drink'. With its extended formula for all day energy and its naturally evaporated cane juice, this is definatley the drink for me. I have difficulty waking up and hate the way coffee makes me feel so this is a great alternative. Just a side note, but this is not the only drink they have that works wonders, there are like 6 more options in the Function line, their website has info on all of them for those who are looking for more excellent alternatives to vitamins in water.
LOVE AE! I have acid reflux and can't have the carbonated energy drink, it's not sugary and does not have that bitter after taste. And as the reviewer said there is no sudden on slot of energy and then a kick in the head an hour later. Get through your day on one bottle! I buy mine at Henry's and Bristol Farms in SoCal.

They sell it at Target in Nashville, TN as well as Whole Foods. The taste takes a little getting used to, but the energy part is definitely there.
It is a pleasure to drink this. I was drinking coffee in the afternoon and experiencing drops in energy and mood swings. I have switched to alternative energy and feel SO MUCH BETTER. Highly recommended.
Drinking too much makes you sick moderation
I've only had it once but I drank about a quarter of it roughly half an hour before a race and I didn't notice the energy boost until i started running. I ended up running a 5:06 mile taking 11 seconds off my previous best. I would definitely recommend AE
These drinks are great, they keep me amped for a good 4 to 6 hours. I use them for MMA traning and studying. They also mix well with marijuana, drink two alternative energy drinks and snap a few bowls and your feeling great for hours.
I am an avid fan of this drink since discovering it a few years ago at a street fair in San Francisco. Like others, I am not a coffee and soad drinker. I am glad that there is a product like this out there that gives me the kick but not the crash. I have also gotten used to the different flavor so it's not a big deal for me.
i ran across this stuff accidentally. i recently gave up coffee and redbull, and grabbed this because i love yuzu flavor and the ingredients seemed pretty good. it is AMAZING. i drink it before class every day and no longer fall asleep all over my desk. i'm going to take it to the gym as well, and everywhere else. the strawberry guava flavor is nice, too.
As a couple sports trainers and a Nutritionist who writes for a national Sports magazine told me in an email, occasionally use of these energy drinks lide Red Bull etc. is ok, but do not get into the habit of using or depending on any of them for regular or daily pick up. If so, then your system is out of balance and really needs other supplements. But this product does work, has a good taste, and will sustain your energy. I haven't seen any long term unbaised studies on effects of this product since it is fairly new.
I get this wonderful drink at MarketBasket (Nashua, NH) and only can say that it works.
