Cocaine Energy Drink Banned for Good Reason?
So it has finally happened. The cocaine energy drink from Redux Beverages has been pulled from the shelves. Whether I am a fan of the drink or not should not be relevant here. The only thing that should be discussed is why has the cocaine energy drink been pulled from the shelves?

What turns out to have been a very clever marketing strategy for the cocaine energy drink has backfired after the FDA issued a warning letter saying that the slogans used were illegally marketing the drink. Basically what the FDA and other state regulators are saying is that Redux Beverages is marketing this drink as a legal alternative to the actual thing. So instead of facing jail time, the people at Redux Beverages decided to pull the cocaine energy drink off the shelf. Some of the slogans used on the site include “Liquid Cocaine,” “Speed in a Can,” and “Cocaine—Instant Rush." So why have the FDA and state regulators decided to take action against the Cocaine Energy Drink? Is it the deceptive marketing tactics (that apparently no other energy drinks use? Or is it the fact that the FDA and state regulators don't like the name of the drink and decided it was best for us if it was pulled from the shelves?
I would have to go with the latter. No one in their right mind would believe that a the cocaine energy drink actually uses real cocaine in the formula. I understand the fact that this may give kids the wrong idea about the actual drug. An by no means do I condone use of the actual drug. But is the government the right venue to shut Redux down? What's next? Are we going to start banning other products with drug related references? High Times Magazine, Billabong Clothing company, Bong Water Energy Drink, Xtazy Energy Drink. What about Hooah Soldier Fuel? Will it make our troops better soldiers? It might, since is is supposedly made be the military. If I drink this will it make me a better soldier? Oh yeah, and what about Coke? It comes in a red can and it supposedly used to contain the actual ingredients. So what's the difference. The slogan? I am sure Coke used to have some outrageous slogans that were not proven as well. Looks like they got a second chance. What about other energy drinks that have questionable names or marketing slogans. Red Bull does not actually give you wings and I think everybody knows this. But what happens if some moron drinks a couple and then decides to try to jump off a bridge so he has a cool video to post on You Tube? Or what about the Rockstar Energy Drink? There slogan is party like a Rockstar? What if by Rock Star they mean Jimi Hendrix or Jim Morrison? Are they promoting that you should party til you die? I could really care less whether or not Cocaine is put back on the shelves. There are other energy drinks out there that are just as good if not better.
But if you want to censor a drink because of the name and marketing slogan, maybe this should be left up to others instead of the government. Just my thoughts. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on the Cocaine Energy Drink being banned.

The FDA has overstepped their bounds. This is a direct assault on the FREEDOM of Americans. This is really oppressive. It is a call for WAR!
First, how can the company who markets "Cocaine" say that the drink does not contain any 'drugs' when an 8.4 oz. can contains 280 mgs of caffeine? Also, how can beverage companies market these drinks as "energy drinks" when "energy" comes from carbohydrates (even though some do have high sugar content), not stimulants like caffeine.
It should have been obvious to Redux that they would face problems if they named their product after an illegal drug. Plus they advertised that it was liquid cocaine. Its obvious to everyone involved that the drink contains no cocaine. Thats not the point. Many years ago Coca Cola contained cocaine hence "Coca" cola. But, they aren't changing their name and I don't think the FDA with bother them. Back in the day when Coke came out, cocaine wasn't illegal. I think its stupid of Redex to name a drink after an illegal substance in todays day in age. Kinda like they are indirectly promoting cocaine use (not the drink). Those are my thoughts. I live in a state that I've never heard of the drink until today. But, I actually want to try it now. Hopefully when they rename it, it will be carried at stores in my area.
To the first anonymous: The meaning of the statement was clear: Cocaine has no ILLEGAL drugs. And they can market it as an energy drink because...you won't believe this...IT GIVES YOU ENERGY!!! There are two different types of energy, you see, one is the scientific meaning, which is the one you seem to be using as an excuse to complain/nitpick, and the second meaning (and the one clearly used here, and used in almost every scenario everywhere) is the capacity for vigorous activity; available power (thanks Dictionary.com)
To the next anonymous: Why should it be obvious? There is a perfume called Opium. Coca-Cola is still clearly named after Cocaine. There are MANY examples of products that had no issues here.
Besides, they aren't really complaining. They're posting links to all the press, bad and good, on their website. THEY LIKE THE PRESS!!!
But that's not what this is about. It's about the FDA stepping in on our lives and saying we can't drink this beverage. It is a declaration of WAR!!! This is the beginning of a War on Freedom, my friends.
How Ironic that your ads on the page of this article advertise "Cocaine Testing Kits FDA Approved"

Keep up the good work. Your perspectives and research are awesome. If I could make a suggestion though, it would only be if you would be able to list where you get the drinks, if u buy online. Thanks again.
I agree! Why does government even need to be involved? Every time we make a purchase, or choose not to, we are basically voting on whether or not that product survives on the market. Government should only be involved if they were actually using the real live drug, otherwise, government just needs to go away and worry about oil spills or how else to rip off Americans.
wouldnt coke sue them for using "coke" in it? and yeah its a bit wierd to walk into a store and be like "CAN I HAVE A BOTTLE OF COCAINE?"
