Must be 18 to Buy Energy Drinks?
I am not a parent and Energy Drinks were a fledgling market when I was under 18 but I tend to agree with the carding of people under 18 when it comes to buying energy drinks. If I was a parent I would not want my kid to be all hyped up on caffeine when I get home from work. I don't know about any studies of energy drinks and
harmful effects in the long term, but I assume that they would be relatively addictive just like coffee. I mean I can't go a day without an energy drink just like my parents can’t go a day without their coffee but then again coffee was not made to entice children. I think I just had a brainstorm. Nope lost it.
This is not a law right now, but the way things are going it looks like it might be regulated in some way. What do you guys think about setting an age limit on buying energy drinks? I do agree with what the stores are doing, but I don't think it should be made into law. Let the parents decide.

So How Old Do You Actually Have To Be?
I think this makes sense too to some extent, but as far as I know there is no age requirements to buy Coca Cola or other caffeinated beverages and they also sell coffee drinks all day long to kids at places like Starbucks, right? So with that in mind it sort of doesn't make sense. I see parents giving little kids soda in their sippy cups like Coke, etc. That is plain crazy if you ask me. My daughter is 3 and I have not given her any soda, your body doesn't need it, but if you start drinking it then you crave it even if it is not good for you.
but i still dont under stand how old do u really have to be cause i am 12 and i like to drink energy drinks but nothing bad happens to me...
but i still want to know can kids at least 12 and up drink energy drinks???
If you are 12 years old you should probably be asking your parents permission before you buy any energy drinks at all.
The chaser 5 hour energy drink says. Not for use by children under 12 years of age.So I'm guessing 13 and older can buy it.I am 13 myself and I haven't tried to buy it but I will try it to see if they sell it to me.
i dont think that there should be an age limit for ANY energy drink.. i kno alot of 10 year olds that can walk into a coffee shop and order a drink that has as much or more caffeine than most energy drinks.. so carding ppl for enery drinks.. its retarded.. i kno that alot of ppl would just say that cuz im young, im only 16, but as most adults, i need caffine to get moving in the morning, whether it be coffee of an energy drink, it helps. i mean, come on! how many ppl do you kno that need a cup of coffee in the morning before they go to work, or go to school?? i bet you kno alot of ppl... point proven!
I agree that there should be an age limit of at least eighteen to purchase energy drinks. Our thirteen year old son had one can of the NOS energy drink in the orange can and shortly thereafter he suffered a seizure. He has never had a seizure before. The can of NOS drink was given to him as a promotional item at an event. There was no id required during this promotion.
Dear Sir or Madam,
Your son must be a pussy... I was snorting Cocaine when i was 12 and started shooting up Meth when i was 15.... no siezures... no brain damage and graduated in the top 5% in my high school. Oh, and by the way, NOS Energy Drinks kick ass!
WEll to set the record straight....coffee has less caffeine than a can of soda. As for the energy drinks, yes I believe that an age limit should be put on it because I have seen first hand what one can do to the wrong person. My daughter in law who is 17 had one and it sent her into a complete melt down! chattering away...then nausea, headache, sleep! If there is no age limit on an energy drink, then at least post warnings on them. A great deal of stores here in South Georgia do require someone be at least 18 yrs. old to purchase one.
I think it is a fab idea!
You might want to check your facts on that last statement.
What statement would that be?
That a great deal of stores in South Georgia require you to be at least 18? Check your facts! I did not say EVERY STORE IN SOUTH GEORGIA !
No. That a can of soda has more caffeine than a cup of coffee.
normal, average brewed coffee has less caffeine than an energy drink, true, but that's pretty much the only coffee drink with less. an espresso is the only drink that has more caffeine than the "cocaine" energy drink, and there are a lot of coffee drinks that are espresso based. it's all about the concentration and strength of the coffee. you make a blanket statement about all coffee. it just doesn't make sense. and therefore, you, madam are a moron.
on the seizure note. that has almost nothing to do with the energy drink itself. that's just the way that that persons body reacted to the caffeine. if he drank a bunch of coffee, the same thing would have happened. it's on a person to person basis. for example, i personally have never been effected by caffeine at all. when i was 15, i would drink a couple red bulls with dinner every night, and go to bed a couple hours later and sleep perfectly. to make a blanket law that affects everyone, despite personal chemistry, would be a dumb idea.
I just think you all are fucking morons....of course that is just an opinion, and opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
So what if you snorted cocaine, or shot up or smoked crack or whatever..that is your personal choice, however I believe that a law should be place on energy drinks, if it happens, it happens ..if it doesn't , it doesn't...makes no mind to me one way or the other. As for the coffee thing that was mentioned above, in an average cup of coffee there IS NOT less caffeine than in a 12 oz can of soda like Coca Cola.
The average amount of caffeine in an 8 oz cup of coffee is about 135mg versus 35 mg in a 12 o can of Coke. So to the person who wrote that, I sure as hell hope you aren't FROM the South, as you are given us all a bad rap! Check your facts before you write or say them please. I am from North Carolina, but I live in Georgia, and have for many, many years and while there are SOME stores that require you to be at least 18, most of them don't.
what are you crazy i live on energy drinks!!!
Iam only 14 and I live on energy drinks.I spend an average of 15-20bucks a week on Monster, Hype, NOS, and BOO-KOO. Its a stupid ass idea to put a age limit on energy drinks. That whole seizure thing is fucked up, everyone reacts different to caffiene, and they put warning labels all over the cans,"(off the back of a Monster Assault that I just drank.)Not Recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women,CAFFIENE SENSITIVE PERSONS. Do Not consume more than 1,000ml per Day." Thats my point.
i hope thie law is NOT passed. if i go a day without an energy drink then i have really bad headaches. my body is used to taking in at least 1,500 mg of caffeine a day. i usually have a couple of spikes or a NuSpeed(one of the strongest energy drinks). i am only fourteen, and i know it is bad for me. what they say about it like stunting your growth n stuff, sure it happens to some people but not all, im fourteen and im 5' 11". ive been drinking them for about 3 years. even if they do pass the law, my parents will buy me more^_^.
but yeah
it will suck.
I thinks the law should not be passed. Being labeled as 18+ should be a title reserved for things that can possibly kill you. Like cigarettes, they kill you and are 18+, but i've never heard a case where someone has died dirnking energy drinks.
There should defiantly not be an age limit for energy drinks. They all have warnings on them. Monster says on it pretty big: "Limit two cans per day" and also not recommended for small children or pregnant women. I think that is plenty enough, not age limit should be made for them... Sure they can kill you if you drink like 4 a day. And yes, some people have had heart attacks from drinking one, but peoples bodies respond differently to things. If you don't have a caffeine addiction and you suddenly jump up to being addicting to drinking energy drinks, then you'll probably have a higher chance at something fatal. But what would be the point of an age limit. People under 18 would still get them. And there wouldn't be that much done to stop it either... Same with cigarettes. I see tons of people at my high school smoking all the time. They don't do that much to stop it. All they do is not let us buy them... SO what would be the point. If your parents think you shouldn't drink them, then you shouldn't... But if they don't care then why does it matter. The majority of people that drink them are all between ten and what I don't know, 20 something? There goes their business right out... So what would be the point.
umm. all of you people who think there should be a law on buying energy drinks can just stop your hopeing becasue there will never be a law banning them. The Majority of energy drink consumers are under 18 years of age. which means...if a law goes into effect then Energy drink companies will lose money and by them loseing money the government will lose money. So good luck with trying to get a law to pass for that.
Well in some stores in my area you have to be 16 to buy an energy drink. some stores will just let you buy it anyways (if you look older than 13 at least) but i can definatly see a age restriction in a near future
Yo, just googled and found this page, top result.
I'm 17, and i've been asked for ID to buy a small can of Red Bull from my local shop. That's the second time it's happened, except the first time was over Shandy bass (which was then sold to me anyway since the people didn't seem to realise anyone can buy it). Apparantly, there's no warning or signs or anything, but they're saying you need to be 16 or over. Now I don't doubt their ID queries, but i'd think a preson that looks from 16-18 looks suitable enough to handle a small energy drink. I could've just gone down to the supermarket and bought a bigger can of relentless, but it costed more.
So, some shops do it, some don't. I don't have a personal feud over ones that do, i'm just concerned as to why they're doing it.
k umm...i'm 11 and i went into casey's and got 2 8 0z. monsters, so i don't think that will hapen soon.
i drink energy drinks all the time and i am perfectly fine and i am under 18. if someone has a problem with one then they just shouldn't drink it. let those who can enjoy something like that have it. we don't ban peanut butter because one kid is allergic. why ban energy drinks if one kid is extremely sensitive to caffeine?
I think there DEFINATELY should not be an age limit on these creations sent from the heavens. These are the things that get my ass up for school every morning. As was said in an earlier comment, everyone reacts different to excessive amounts of caffeine. My cousin can barely stomach half a red bull, while i am perfectly fine after over 40 oz. of NoS. there is a kool website, energyfiends.com, you can see exactly how many energy drinks you can drink in a row before you croak. They r usually extremely high. i could drink 77.28 Amps in a row b4 i die. besides there are much more impoortant things the government should be working on right now like:
Global Warming
The War in Iraq
The War in Afghanistan
Abortion
Gay Marriage
just to name a few.
PEACE OUT
oh and just so you know, if you want to avoid the "meltdown", what i do is digest a lot of potassium. easiest place to find it?:
bananas.
you all have good reasons not to ban it but the main reason really should be that partents should raise their kids not the government. me for example: i have had them and nothing has ever happened to me so my parents let me have them. however, some parents dont let their kids have them so thats up to them. Recently at my school they have banned them but i didnt think it was the schools place seeing as the parents should be the ones who control their kids, not the school. this makes the kids feel more controlled and their more likely to rebel. In addition, they will find a way to get it if they really want it. whether or not they pass this law, it wont affect me much b/c i know i can still buy them online or have someone older buy them for me. As for the meltdowns, there are same people who have the same reaction to many other things and is very rare. as for the sezure, it could be a coincidence that he happened to have one at the same as the NOS or he could be allergic. Anyways, i have to have caffiene every day and i usually have coffee, which isnt getting an age limit, or an energy drink. Eventhough most energy drinks have more caffiene than coffee, people drink multipul cups of coffee. Energy drinks arent really a problem and people are just putting it wayy out of proportion. i think its just because its something new, cinibon is probably more dangerous, but more people have had it so they dont think as much of it. If you over do cinibon, you could go into a sugar coma and develope diabeties. People should just give them a try and there wouldnt be as much despute.
~sorry for any spelling or gramatic errors in this entry~
I dont get whats with the hating on kids drinking energy drinks. Im a kid and i drink energy drinks all the time too. I wouldnt live through school without them, it souldnt be fair if we were banned from them. Thank about it we cant have vodka or beer or wine or any of that shit energy drinks are all we have, do u really want to take that away from us?
Age limits for energy drinks are BULLS**T.
Caffeine is one of the safest, if not the safest stimulant there is. People under 18 often work long hours and go to school. When I was 16 I was working 40 hours a week, when I was 17 I was doing 50 or more and studying too. Plus I had a ton of personal responsibilities. Energy drinks helped give me the kick to get things done. Other people my age were using cigarettes, amphetamine, other dangerous drugs.
Youth is not a time of carefree idleness and screwing around anymore, if it ever was.
Ban energy drinks for kids, and they'll either get their caffeine another way (No Doz, coffee), or turn to dangerous and unhealthy habits. Caffeine is GRAS and if you know how much you tolerate (me, I can't have more than 200mg or so at once without getting the jitters), it's very hard to hurt yourself with it. If parents don't want their kids drinking energy drinks, that's their issue, but stores and government do not need to step in.
I just turned 17 and i have been drinkin energy drinks since i was about 11 or 12. I can drink 2 cocaines back to back and go to sleep within 30 minutes. The only ones that really get me are redline extremes and redline power rush. I get a nice 6-8 Hour perk from them. As far as an age limit goes... in the part of Georgia i live in most places set an 18+ limit on redline when they first came out, now no one cares, they even say 18+ on the bottle. So no i dont thnik there should be an age limit on ED's. ED's are the only thing that keeps my ass in school. Without them i couldn't get my fat ass out of bed to go to school.
...B. Miller...
Haven't you energy drink induced coma patients ever heard of a good night's sleep? Try getting between 7-9 hours of sleep and see how well your body does. Try eating a balanced meal of veggies and fruits and watch how well your brain functions throughout the day.
You think your grandparents and parents got where they are in life off of Redbull? Guess again homeskillet.
haha. my parents buy me energy drinks, usually. as long as i don't drink them in the same room as them; my dad says they smell like cheap perfume.
besides. aside from getting yelled at, it's fun to be looking at the ground and one part is clear and stuff and the outside's fuzzy.
but having to wash your hands in puddles sucks too.
i hate mud. ):
&&i hope that law doesn't come to existance. i get some weird looks when i get, for example, a monster b.f.c. some cashier goes 'dayum, that's a bigazz energy drink!'
or maybe it was a random patron. wtf ever.
People asking for the government to regulate every single aspect of their lives are getting downright ridiculous. If you don't want your kids on energy drinks, which is certainly arguably a valid request, it is parents' jobs to make sure they don't get energy drinks. I completely understand that parents can't be around 24/7 controlling their kids, but parents should have some sort of control over their kids that even if they did buy energy drinks and get hyped on caffeine, they'd chill out a little bit in front of you to hide the fact.
The fact remains that even if YOU don't want your kids drinking the stuff, make it a house rule or something. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean the whole country should have the same law.
im addicted to monster.
im 14 and i have one almost every day.
i know that it can stunt your growth, heart problems, and many more, but i think the limit should be like 13 or older.
Energy drinks are just like cigarettes. I wish I never started "smoking". But! I'm still going to do it. There isn't a day that I don't get some crazy ass craving to where I can taste the monster in my mouth and I can feel the tension in my skull about to break loose.
Anypew... Can't buy cigarettes unless you're 18-19. If you really want them that bad, which I've observed, you will get them. Same with alcohol, I suppose.
Moral of the story: I honestly don't want to see 12-13 (or less, of course) yr olds smoking, nor do I really want to see them binging away on some crazy ass energy drink. They are NOT healthy. In any way! They're not even "okay" to drink on a daily basis.
Kids going to school, riding with friends, at the mall, at a public event... Most likely. There are going to be energy drinks there. And available for purchase. And not all the time are the children going to have parental supervision to say: "No!" Or remind them of the dangers so they can somewhat make their own decisions.
I honestly agree with carding young individuals for sale of energy drinks. And I believe the age should be 18. And like cigarettes, I don't think they'll be banned anytime soon.
Seems like Energy drinks are quickly resembling the Tobacco Company :/
wth theres is nothing wrong with darn energey drinks! anlong as you drink in moderaiton youl be fine !!!i buy energy drinks in wholesale and flog them at school and im 12!! as long as you not adicted to them your ok.and if you dont mind me saying what the hell is monster energy drink!!. i live in the uk,we have red bull relnetluss rockstar 24/7 red rooster.im thinking of importing some american drinks because my 'custmors'like new and good energy drinks. this is my opinion kk
my son was taken to the emergency room 2 nights ago from these damn drinks. he almost had a heart attack. so yes they should set an age limit. and if people are that tired that they need that much caffeine then you need more sleep!!!!
energy drinks are kinda like alcoholic drinks. one or two arnt really bad for you. if you have more than you should, bad things can happen. its the same deal with energy drinks. i drink one here and there but not constantly or more than one at a time. 16 ounces is more than enough, hence the 2 servings part. yes they taste good, but people need to be smart about drinking them.
dylan, sounds like your addicted. Everyday?...
My name is Jake. This age limit is absolutly the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. First of all, even if you set an age limit on something, its still going to be on the market for anyone underage just not at a store. Alcohol has an age law, and its still available for even a 12 year old to get. Energy Drink do almost no harm to you what so ever, as long as your not a fiend and drinking more than 1-3 a day. Im 16 years old and If I wanted an energy drink that badly, I would be able to get someone to get it no problem. If there is an age limit on buying energy drinks, it will just be a waste of everyones time. If they have to set a Age Limit then the most logical one would be 16 years old because anyone still in elementry school shouldn't be drinking energy drinks anyways.
I dont think Their should be a law because Energy Drinks may have an addictive property I think they are fine in moderation. Some people may over do it but its their choice. As for all the parents and people who hate energy drinks because their kids or someone they knew had to be hospitalized, just dont let your family have them, u worry about your own fa,ily besides it was a rare personal reaction to the caffeine, there are alot more people who will DIE if they eat even one peanut but its still not illegal because for others it tastes good. Energy Drinks taste good!! Personally I'm 16 and I love Monster, to some it looked like a I have an addiction but
I don't I can go for weeks without it and I have but usually i don't because they're good. On the addiction part, you can become addicted to anything somethings are just more addicting than others, like driving a car, once you start you usually don't go back to walking.
I think it's bullshit to put a law on this stuff. im 29 and have been drinking these as a sub 4 booze. Its a personal choice.
I think they need to pass a law so that you have to be at least 18 to buy energy drinks if the kids parents think its ok then they can buy them for them. I'm 23 and I have one on occassion but I had an incident this past weekend with my 11 year old sister and her friends. I took her and 4 other girls skating and I caught one of them drinking a monster. I then approached her and asked where did she get it and she said she bought it at the conssesion stand and that it was her second one I of coarse made her throw it away and went to the counter and asked is there not an age limit on energy drinks and the girl told me no I was irrate. I coulnt get over the fact that a skating rink full of kids every day would sell something like that. I just dont think kids really understand what they are and what they can do to you. I mean think about it a 50 pound child could go up there and purchase and drink as many as he wants and they dont care. I also look at like if an 11 year old starts needing that much caffiene now think when they become my age 23.
i think that is should be a law unless they want to die!!
I think energy drinks shouldn't have a ban. For one, the mass majority of them don't give you energy, but instead let you stay awake for a couple more hours. In my case, many energy drinks such as Red Bull and Monster have little to no effect on me (at least, energy-wise), except to keep me awake. That's it. No jittering, anything. Now, placing a ban on these type of energy drinks is ridiculous. They aren't life-threatening unless you are allergic to it, which in that case YOU shouldn't be drinking and not others.
On to the next catagory: powerful stuff like Redline. They still shouldn't have a ban because they have labels all over them warning of the safety hazards associated and the recommendations. Just as we don't place bans on over-the-counter drugs just because some idiot decides to overdose on them and attract media attention, common sense should dictate people to read the damn instructions and take care with these drinks.
I'm sick of how stupidity and ignorance lead to these incidents. When the can tells you to don't drink the whole thing in a sitting, don't goddamn do it! If you are especially sensitive to stimulants, guess what? Don't goddamn drink energy drinks!
I'm thirteen and the only two places I can get energy drinks are the two Wawa's (eastern convenience store). on each side of town. I always go in and get a drink each day. I've never even gotten a funny look and spme other kids just live off the stuff. I don't think this should or is gonna happen soon
My favorite thing with you americans is lets invade a country cause there not free and den lets make the laws at home as tight as possible
ithink its dumb but its not my decision. redbull pwn3d monster
That would be dumb. There would just be a black market for it, and it would be killing more poeple than it saves.
Smoking Crystal meth and Crack should be illegal, ENERGY DRINKS SHOULD NOT BE!, If you think they should be then Water should be illegal too
i think that having a age limit on the energy drinks is crap im 28 and have 2 kids and do u think i will give my kids them drinks no i drink more 4 all of us and it is just like when i was a kid mom told me that drugs and booz r not good for me and what did i go do... Yep that right... so now taking the energy drinks from them is going to make them want it more and having to get carded is going to make it harder on us and i guess if u do not want your kids to have them then just put them in a bubble and that might keep them away from it and might keep them safe so call it what you want there is was more stuff to be passing thin this so get off it there r way more of us then there is of non drinkers
thank you from
energy drinker and mom
lol i waas sipping onn a energydrink as i was reading this!....im 15 and i dissagree with this becuase caffine make kids more focused in class and helps me wake up in the morning
Would you ban coffee? Coffee has, on average, MORE CAFFEINE DENSITY than an energy drink. If you don't want your kids hyped up, are you going to ban sugar as well? How about all electronics, as those contribute to insomnia. Oh, and don't forget to ban OTC medicine. I've heard you can get pretty messed up from them. Oh, and also ban anything that would give your kids a jolt of adrenaline, such as roller coasters or any kind of action sport. Oh, and they might whine if they get injured in sports, so none of that, either. See where I'm going with this? DON'T BAN CAFFEINE. If you OD you feel jittery and overall horrible. No one *wants* to overdose on caffeine. You freak out. The only people who die from it are idiots who drink 5g+. Please, please, please see the light. Caffeinated beverages are not harmful. Saying you want them banned so that your kids aren't hyper is bad. Keeping your kids out of trouble is your job. Not the government's.
What I love about America is that Americans say, "Well, it's moral and rational to kill our children by sending them to war, BUT it's not OK to let them have a barely significant risk of death from caffeine. Just because a few kids are either intolerant or idiots. Let's ban milk to minors, too! I know a person so intolerant to lactose he would die! You, sirs, are and idiot :/
I think it is a great idea to id kids when they buy energy driks, I am the mother of three boys ages 11,8 and 7 and I don't want them anywhere near an energy drink!! Children are not old enough to make good decisions about their health, and it is up to us to protect them!!!!
wow...im amazed at how STUPID our society is becoming. there are actual political issues that deserve much more focus than age restrictions on energy drinks. and banning a substance creates more problems than widespread use or abuse of a substance. look at the US drug scheduling for example...sure its illegal to possess and distribute certain drugs, but does that stop many people from doing it? no it doesnt. it just takes up room in prison, raises the street prices controlled substances, gives gangs more power, and results in murders and crimes related to illegal drugs. and as for the things that are legal for people over a certain age, minors will still get their hands on them, but resort to methods such as stealing, or buying the products from anybody willing to sell to them, which can be unsafe. so personally, i think that any age limit on energy drinks would be an incredibly DUMB idea, as are age limits for other substances, and the scheduling of drugs in USA
energey drinks shouldent be aligole if people want to drink theme they can
Rediculous. So 16 year olds can have sex, babies, get married, go to the army and win the lottery, but not drink red bull?
I personally don't agree that children should be allowed to buy or drink energy drinks. I don't see any harm in banning the sale of energy drinks to young children, but it should be up to the parents digression to whether or no they are allowed to drink them. Either way we all know that caffeine and sugar are not healthy and should be consumed in moderate amounts. It is completely up to parents to ensure that their children eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis. But with the fast paced world we live in that is nearly impossible. Some have said in their comments that they can't make it through the day without energy drinks; that is a sign right there on co-dependency to energy drinks and an unhealthy daily routine!! You also have to consider the role the media plays on children. I see a lot of commercials about drinking an energy drink and being able to do anything, I can brush It off as a stupid commercial but kids really buy in to it and the advertisements work making them believe they have to have that drink. If only the media sold truth, but they are too busy making money off of lies.
i think that if a law were passed that kids would still be drinking it because there older friends or siblings would get it for them also in my school energy drinks are no alowed but people just dont let teachures se them or put it in a gatoraid bottle or something like that
I'm not sure if a law is appropriate but a warning should be on the label so it is noticeable. My 21 yr old son who is old enough to drink alcahol recently had a 2 seizures and the only link we have is he had consumed an energy drink both times prior to his seizures. I'm sure this wouldn't happen to everyone but it is something that I believe everyone should be aware off. Luckily he wasn't driving or at working w/heavy equipment when either of these happened. But what young person would even think this was a possibility. PARENTS NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE REACTIONS THAT THESE DRINKS MAY CAUSE!!!
no i dont think they should , because some people need the boost throughout the day , and people that abuse is , its their fault it has directions on the bottle , and coffee doesnt have an age limit. though i really dont think it will matter to my age because by thetime the law does switch it if they do , i will be of age. but the government should be worrying about the homeless people and other more important things in life then a stupid energy drink.
plus if this happens soon enough kids wont beable to buy anything cause all the age limits will be raised to 18. maybe parents should pay attention to their kids and stp addictions instead f the government putting age restrictions on everything.
i think you all should shutup and let kids drink them if they want
i think this is stupid and its just gonna be another law to be broken. i know for a fact my parents and odler brother would buy that fot me if i wasnt allowed to buy it myself
Cigarettes at one time were not regulated either. Surprise surprise health studies showed that they were harmful to your health. I started smoking when I was 13 and am now 32 still smoking, at that time the restriction was 15. Its an addiction just like caffeine and energy drinks are becoming for our youth. I have an 11 year old daughter and I'll be dammed if I will ever allow her to consume an energy drink consumed with crap. Personally in our house carbonated drinks are not allowed either and are consumed as a "treat" just like they were way back when. If you want energy drink a orange juice or have peanut butter which are natural. What is happening with our youth and world that they have to rely on a drink to get their energy to make it through a day! I am a full supporter of regulating the drinks before we have to find out we made a mistake and it too late and the damage is already done.... just like cigs.
I love how most of the people here state that they are over 18 and yet they can't seem to type out simple comments without any errors in them... I'm in college and live off caffeine, and I did drink coffee as a kid. Starbucks is designed for kids, and I don't think many would disagree with me if they looked at their menu. Nothing in the energy drinks companies like Walmart are carding for is illegal and therefore they have no right, period. Nothing in the ingredients is essentially bad for anyone to take. They all pretty much have less calaries than anything on McDonald's menu and they contain tons of folic acid and vitamins. It warns on most not to take if you are under 12 or 10 or are pregnant. The reason why they are even carding has nothing to do with caffeine content, but the supplement creatine, which is not a controlled substance and has no real ill effects on the body. You don't see Walmart carding for bags of coffee or monster energy drinks. Some people react badly to caffeine just like alcohol. If that is the case for someone you know or yourself beware and stay away. No one is forcing you to buy or ingest it, so STFU!
For the guy that posted the rant about how cigarettes weren't thought of to bad when he was a kid and he is now 32... check your facts man, most intelligent people understand cigarettes were bad for you by 1960's. Just because you were a stupid kid and the regulation age wasn't 18 yet doesn't mean you actually have a point. Nothing in cigarettes is good for you, yet energy drinks have more healthy aspects than most fast food restaurant menus.
i no people that are 12 and buy energy drinks at there spare time!
i no this 12 year old boy that buys energy drinks alot, and he is kind of addicted to it, i try to stop him...
It is not the caffeine that they are worried about in the energy drinks it is all the other stuff like the taurine, ginseng, etc. This stuff has cause heart rates to speed up and cause problems in children and teenagers.
While a lot of people remain ignorant in the fact that energy drinks arent safe and healthy, puttinf an age restriction on it would be ridiculous. So some stupid little twelve year olds wanna feel cool or whatever by drinking a monster EVERY day. They wanna have heart problems? I dont give a shit im not them. I drink an energy drink when necessary, and i shouldnt be punished because little kids dont know what theyre drinking and dont know how to regulate themselves.
