Crunk Energy Drink Review

Crunk Energy Drink

Active Ingredients:Caffeine, Green Tea Extract, B-Vitamins
Taste Rating:9.3
Kick Rating:8.0
Final Judgment Rating:8.7
Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Crunk Energy Drink Review
Hip Hop inspired energy drink from Lil' Jon who has proclaimed himself the King of Crunk. And what is Crunk? It's an energy drink. No really, it means its going to get crazy, off the hook or nuts. So does anything else stand out about this 8.3 ounce drink? Well this is the first time that I have heard of Pomegranate Juice being used in and Energy Drink. Oh it also has Ashwaganda, which I believe is a form of Ginseng (but I could be mistaken) and Horny Goat weed, in case you want a little sexual enhancement with your energy. Sounds good to me!

Crunk Energy Drink Review: Taste
As I mentioned above the drink's flavor is pomegranate. What does it taste like? Well it tastes kind of like a mix between grape juice and cranberry juice. Which makes it an excellent candidate as a mixer (not that I am promoting mixing energy drinks and alcohol). So yeah (no pun intended) the taste is pretty good and is quite unique. I have yet to taste another energy beverage along the same lines. So I will give it a 9.3 for the taste rating!

Crunk Energy Drink Review: Kick
Great unique taste, but how does it hold up in the kick category? Well it has about 100 milligrams of caffeine, green tea extract and a bunch of b-vitamins. These energy ingredients put it slightly ahead of market leader Red Bull but not in line with the Strongest Energy Drinks. However, it does pack a pretty decent kick for a 8.3 ounce energy drink. How about that Horny Goat Weed? Well you will have to ask my girlfriend about that. My stance is no comment! Kick Rating - 8.0

Crunk Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Great original taste, decent kick. Would make for a great mixer, especially when you include Horny Goat Weed in the equation. Think about it. You are at a club having a crunk and vodka... your pumped full of energy and then the horny goat weed kicks in. You can fill in the rest for your self! The only thing I would like to see from Crunk is a 16 or even 24 ounce can. More energy, more horny goat weed, more Yeah!! Stay tuned for the review of the sugar free version as well. Final Judgment 8.7

I have been informed that there is a 16 ounce version of this drink available. So I guess all they need now is a 24 ounce one!

Function Alternative Energy Drink Review

Kick Rating:8.9
Final Judgment Rating:8.8
Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Function Alternative Energy Drink Review
Today I will be reviewing an Energy Drink that is slightly different than the normal ones that I review. First off the Function Alternative Energy Drink is All-Natural and has a time release formula. This time release formula seems pretty complicated, but is supposed to last 6-8 hours, or supply you with energy for 6-8 hours without any spikes or crashes. I wish I could tell you more about the function of "the time release" blend, but after reading the website I found it hard to follow. From what I gather the Function Alternative Energy Drink uses 4 classes of pharmacokinetics to enhance mood and energy. Pharmacokinetics is the rate at which a dietary supplement is absorbed into the body. The 4 classes that Function uses take effect sequentially. This is how they supply you with that 6 to 8 hours of sustained energy. I hope I got that right, if you want to read more about it, take a look at their website, they seem to explain the whole process quite well. Again, I am not positive if I got the explanation of how the Function Alternative Energy Drink works right, so I will just let you know in my own words if it works as it is supposed to! Read on for the rest of the review!

Function Alternative Energy Drink Review: Taste
Before we get to the "kick review" lets discuss the also important taste category. Function Alternative Energy labels it's taste as Tangerine-Yuzu. Well I am not sure what Yuzu is but I know what a tangerine is. Usually the Tangerine is a pretty sweet citrus flavor, but in this case it was not as sweet. This is probably because I am used to artificial tangerine flavors topped with sugar or artificial sweeteners. Well there is neither in this drink, but there is cane extract which is better for you than both the aforementioned. So what does it taste like. Well it tastes like a flavored water or vitamin water. This may sound bad, but it actually is not. The flavor was quite refreshing. Although it is not what I am used to, as most energy drinks I review contain sugar or artificial sweeteners, I was more than pleased with the flavor of Function Alternative energy. Taste Rating - 8.5

Function Alternative Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well the flavor was refreshing and so was the boost of energy I received. I could not tell when the boost "kicked in" as there was no big surge of energy. However, throughout the day I continued to feel refreshed long after I had finished consuming Function. It has been roughly 5 hours since I finished function and I still feel uplifted. So yeah I would have to say 6 - 8 hours of uplifting energy is possible. For energy ingredients it looks like their is caffeine, Guarana Extract and Yerba Mate. There might be other "energy" ingredients but I am not sure what all the other natural extracts are. Kick Rating - 8.9

Function Alternative Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Refreshing seems to sum up both the taste and kick for this beverage. It was a pleasure to review this 16.9 ounce "out of the ordinary" energy drink. The only place I know that you can buy it is online and at Whole Foods. It is worth giving a try, especially with the $1.69 price tag. In my opinion it would be a great drink to have early in the morning or before a workout, as a refreshed feeling comes in handy in both instances. Oh I would also like to see other flavors developed! Final Judgment - 8.8

Twisted Chopper Energy Drink Review
Well today I am going to try a Twisted Chopper Energy Drink. These drinks are made by Unique Beverage Company, LLC. They are 16 ounces and are priced at roughly $2.00 each or it looks like you can get a case shipped to your door for about $48.00. Besides the basic info the only other thing I was able to find out about Twisted Chopper is that they were featured in an Xbox game called "Crackdown." Never played it so let's just get on with the review.

Buy Twisted Chopper Here

Twisted Chopper Energy Drink Review: Taste
The first taste of this drink made me think of Redbull. Second taste gave me the same initial impression. So I am going to go with this drink tastes like a Red Bull Energy Drink. It even has a slight medicinal aftertaste as well. The only good thing seems to be that you can get 16 ounces of Twisted Chopper for the same price as a Red Bull, $2.00. Other than that there is nothing original about this drink besides the cool can with the skull and cross bones. However, if you do like Red Bull, you will enjoy Twisted Chopper. I personlly am not a huge fan of Red Bull, so my taste rating might be skewed. Taste Rating - 7.5

Twisted Chopper Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well the taste was not original so the only thing left keeping this drink alive is the kick factor. Well with 180 milligrams of caffeine, 3000 milligrams of taurine and a bunch of B-Vitamins the kick is a little above average when compared with other drinks. Sure it has more kick than Red Bull, but you will find Twisted Chopper giving an average kick along the lines of Rockstar Energy Drink. Kick Rating 8.0

Twisted Chopper Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Only slightly above average in both the kick and taste categories. Has a cool logo which is about the only thing that stands out with this beverage. If you are looking for a better Energy Drink than I suggest you try the Wired Energy Drink Line Up that Unique Beverages, LLC offers. Better taste and better kick. Final Judgment - 7.7

Well I have been meaning to put a list of all the sugar free energy drinks that I have reviewed together for quite awhile. Beaver Buzz Citrus Energy Drink Review

Citrus Beaver Buzz
Cost: $2.99 - $3.29 (Canadian)
Cost Per Ounce:$0.19-$0.21
Active Ingredients:Caffeine, Guarana, Taurine, B-Vitamins
Taste Rating:8.1
Kick Rating:8.9
Final Judgment Rating:8.4
Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Beaver Buzz Citrus Energy Drink Review
Well this is the third installment of the Beaver Buzz Energy Drink line up that I have done. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two, href="http://energy-drink-ratings.blogspot.com/2007/06/beaver-buzz-saskatoon-berry-energy.html">Saskatoon Berry and Beaver Big Buzz so I was looking forward to doing today's review on the Citrus version of Beaver Buzz. These drinks are provided to us by our Neighbors to the north, Canada. They have several varieties including the above mentioned as well as a Green Tea version which I will review down the line. They also offer several different sizes including 8.4 ounce (250ml), 12 ounce (355ml) and the 16 ounce (473 ml) version. Enough background and onto the review of the 12 ounce (355ml)Beaver Buzz Citrus Energy Drink.

Beaver Buzz Citrus Energy Drink Review: Taste
My initial taste impression of this beverage brought back memories of a product I had reviewed back in March 2007 which is the Kronik Energy Drink. Beaver Citrus Energy tasted almost identical to Kronik as it had the passion, citrus fruit flavor combined with a medicinal aftertaste. The medicinal aftertaste was not over the top, but it was noticeable. Beaver Buzz citrus energy even had the same odd smell as Kronik Energy. The taste was good but combined with the medicinal aftertaste I would have to say that this is my least favorite of the Beaver Buzz lineup. But hey taste is subjective! Taste Rating - 8.1

Beaver Buzz Citrus Energy Drink Review: Kick
So the taste was not my favorite, but will the kick category save this citrus drink? Well in the 12 ounce (355ml) can there is 160 milligrams of caffeine, 145 milligrams of guarana extract, 1446 milligrams of taurine, 145 milligrams of siberian ginseng root extract and a pretty good helping of b-vitamins. So yeah the kick was pretty good. Again, not over the top, but a well balanced and well received kick. Now I can see why there is a slight medicinal aftertaste, that's a lot of energy ingredients! Kick Rating - 8.9

Beaver Buzz Citrus Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Mediocre taste followed up by a pretty "dam good" kick. If they could completely rid the drink of medicinal aftertaste (which is next to impossible) or at least tone it down a bit making it similar to the very small medicinal aftertaste in their Big Buzz this drink would be outstanding. But as it stands now there is room for improvement. Final Judgment - 8.4

Nerd Energy Drink Review

Nerd Energy Drink

Kick Rating:8.5

Nerd Energy Drink Review
Well I have to say that even after over 140 Energy Drink Reviews I am still not surprised by the naming of energy drinks. Although I would have to say that I did see the name of this drink coming eventually! Nerd Energy was founded last year, but until recently I had not heard of it (which is too bad as you will later find out). This beverage was invented by a couple former college students (Vinicio Montes, Marlon Lozada) and an entrepreneur (Anthony Dow Jr). These guys came up with the concept of an energy drink that is supposed to enhance memory retention and deliver energy. Why didn't I think of that? All those late night cram sessions during college, then you wake up and all you think of is kicking your roommates ass for waking you up at bar close. Well I don't know if Nerd Energy would apply in that situation but it would come in handy in other situations. Basically this drink seems to have been created for college students by college students. Enough fluff and onto the review of the 12 ounce Nerd Energy Drink.

Nerd Energy Drink Review: Taste
Alright it has a cool name and pretty unique concept. But what does it taste like. All I can say is that after my first couple sips all I could think of was something that I used to drink as a kid. I couldn't figure it out at first but then it hit me, the Nerd Energy Drink kind of tastes like the Ecto Cooler Drink from Hi-C. Kind of a weird citrus cooler that has hints of lime, orange and other flavors. It was actually quite good and if you can remember way back to the Ecto Cooler days you will definitely enjoy this drink. I have actually never tasted an energy beverage quite like this. I wish I would have ran into this drink earlier as the taste is unique and was well received by me. No medicinal aftertaste and a unique taste, you can't go wrong here. Taste Rating 9.5

Nerd Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well the ecto cooler like taste was great, but how does the mental focus and kick work. Well I am done with college (finally), so I put the Nerd Energy Drink to the test at work. I tried it after lunch as this is when I (and most others) usually lose focus. Since the drink claims that it "enhances focus" I thought this to be a fair test. Nerd Energy does list the Focus and Memory ingredients on their website, but the only one that rang a bell was Chinese Ginko Biloba (you can check out the rest of the ingredients on their website). Either way I seemed more focused but then again it was either get my work done or stay late. So either the drink helped me focus better on my work or the thought of staying late kept me focused. Can't tell for sure. However, I can tell you that the energy blend gave off a pretty decent kick. With 120 milligrams of caffeine, 1500 milligrams of taurine, 37.5 milligrams of guarana extract and a very hefty helping of B-Vitamins per 12 ounce can Nerd delivers a pretty good kick. It is not one of the strongest energy drinks on the market but, hey you have to end that cram session eventually right. Kick Rating 8.5

Nerd Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
I originally started this blog because in college I started getting sick of the same old energy beverages (Red Bull, Rock Star, Monster Energy). That being said I wish Nerd would have been available when I was in college. The taste is great, the kick is good and the price ain't to shabby either. You can get a case of 12 ounce cans shipped to your door for $48.00. Basically the same price as Red Bull except you get a case of 12 ounce cans vs. 8.4 ounce cans. I have two quips about Nerd, first off they should develop a 16 ounce can just in case you have a little more cramming or gaming to get done; second they should introduce a sugar free / low calorie version. Otherwise great job! Final Judgment 9.3

Wired X3000 Mango Passion Fruit Energy Drink Review
Well as I have stated before the Wired Energy Drink lineup is quite extensive. They offer 16 different varieties in 8.4, 16 and 23.5 ounce cans. Yeah they have a lot of variety. Today I will be reviewing the 16 ounce Wired X3000 Mango Passion Fruit. The Mango Passion Fruit is a take off of the original popular X3000 (which I have yet to review), the only difference seeming to be the flavor. Well let's find out how the Wired X3000 Mango Passion Fruit holds up in the review.

Well first off I knew I was in for a fruity flavored drink. With my past experience reviewing Energy Drinks I know that fruit flavored drinks can taste either really good, or really bad depending on how well the drink masks the energy ingredients. Since the flavor is usually lighter, it makes it easier to taste the energy ingredients. Luckily the Mango Passion Fruit from Wired does an excellent job of masking the energy ingredients. The blend (of course) was mango and passion fruit, with the passion fruit taking on the stronger presence. Good blend, good taste and a great job at masking the energy ingredients, especially for a fruit based energy drink. Taste Rating - 9.0

Wired X3000 Mango Passion Fruit Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well the 16 ounce mango passion flavor was blended good and it did a great job of masking all the energy ingredients which are 188 mililgrams of caffeine, 300 milligrams of taurine and a crap load of b-vitamins. So yeah there are a lot of energy ingredient in this drink which made the kick just as enjoyable as the taste. The Wired X3000 Mango Passion Fruit is a drink from Wired that offers mid level kick. It has more than twice the kick of a Red Bull but is not the strongest that Wired has to offer. If you are looking for a decent but not over the top kick this drink would work great for you. If you are looking for a stronger drink try the Wired X344 or the even stronger Wired X505. Kick Rating - 9.1

Wired X3000 Mango Passion Fruit Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Great flavor good kick. Another good edition to the Wired line up. Not too much else to say. Final Judgment - 9.0

Bomba Berry Energy Drink Review

Bomba Energy Drink - Berry
Cost: $1.89
Cost Per Ounce:$0.23
Active Ingredients:Caffeine, Taurine
Taste Rating:9.5
Kick Rating:7.4
Final Judgment Rating:8.7
Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Bomba Berry Energy Drink Review
Well I have already reviewed the original Bomba Energy Drink as well as the Ruby Red Flavor. They are both great drinks. However, I wish they made them bigger as they currently only come in 8.4 ounce grenade shaped plastic or glass bottles. Bomba has been around since 1994 so they have had time to perfect their flavors, giving me high hopes for the Bomba Berry energy drink which I will be reviewing today.

Bomba Berry Energy Drink Review: Taste
Bomba definitely used their years of research and development to really nail down a great tasting drink. The berry flavor tastes nothing like a normal energy drink as there is no energy ingredient or medicinal taste to the drink. It tastes more like something you would find in a Kool Aid packet, just maybe not as sweet. Bomba Berry with only 90 calories is pretty damn good. The only pitfall is that it is only 8.4 ounces. Combine that with the great taste and you got yourself one short lived Energy Drink. Why short lived? Well it tastes good making it incredibly easy to chug. Make a bigger bottle already! Taste Rating 9.5

Bomba Berry Energy Drink Review: Kick
The taste is great but the kick is only average when compared to today's standards. Don't get me wrong the 62.5 of caffeine and 75 milligrams of taurine delivers a kick, but it is no greater than a Red Bull. If they doubled the drink size to 16 ounces and got a little more caffeine in the beverage (closer to 175 milligrams) this drink would definitely be in my top 5 energy drink list. However, if you are not used to trying all sorts of energy drinks with caffeine levels in excess of 300 milligrams than you will probably find Bomba Berry pleasing enough. If you enjoy the kick you get from a Red Bull you will enjoy the kick from Bomba Berry just as good. Kick Rating 7.4

Bomba Berry Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Tastes way better than Red Bull but delivers a similar kick as Red Bull. Make some 16 ounces bottles and the kick problem would be solved. Heck they got plenty of room to add more caffeine to their drinks as the flavor is remarkable. Right now it seems like you are drinking a Kool Aid instead of an energy beverage. The taste alone still warrants you give Bomba a try. You will be hard pressed to find another Berry flavored Energy Beverage like this. Final Judgment - 8.7

Wired X5000 Energy Drink Review
Another Friday, another Wired Energy Drink Review. I wish I could say I was getting sick of trying all the new Wired Flavors but so far I have been nothing but pleased with the entire line up. They have quite an extensive line up with about 16 different flavors ranging from 8.4 ounces to 23.5 ounces. Some with tons of caffeine some with average amounts. So they literally do have something for everyone. That being said I will quit tooting Wired's horn (even though I am a big fan) and move onto the review of the Wired X5000.

Wired X5000 Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well today's drink comes in a 23.5 ounce can. Yeah it's that big. What does it taste like? Well this one tastes more like your regular old fashioned energy drink. So it tastes similar to the original Monster Energy Drink. So if you are a fan of Monster you should like this one. However, I personally am not a huge fan of Monster Energy so needless to say I like the other Wired Flavors better. So it tastes like a Monster Energy Drink but I think it has less of a medicinal aftertaste. Either way the taste is still OK. Taste Rating - 8.6

Wired X5000 Energy Drink Review: Kick
The taste is OK but I like the Wired Energy Drinks for their kick. Ever since they introduced the Wired X-294 with 294 milligrams of caffeine they have been pushing the envelope with their caffeine content. There drinks like X-344 (344 milligrams of caffeine) and X-505 (505 milligrams of caffeine) give you a huge kick. Now the Wired X-5000 is not quite in that category but it does give you a good kick for your dollar as it has 145 milligrams of caffeine, a ton of taurine (4400 milligrams) and an super size helping of B-Vitamins. So yeah it may not be on par with the Wired 505 in the kick category (few drinks are), but it does deliver a good kick. Kick Rating 9.0

Wired X5000 Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Decent taste, strong kick huge can. This may not be my favorite Wired beverage but it is another nice addition to the complete Lineup. If you like Monster or Redbull give this over grown puppy a try. Final Judgment - 8.8

Talon Blood Punch Energy Drink Review

Talon Blood Punch Energy Drink
Cost: $2.29
Cost Per Ounce:$0.14
Active Ingredients:Caffeine, Taurine, Guarana, B-Vitamins
Taste Rating:9.0
Kick Rating:8.8
Final Judgment Rating:8.9
Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Talon Blood Punch Energy Drink Review
Today I got to try one of the Talon Energy Drinks. They come in a variety of flavors and sizes. The sizes are 16 ounce and 24 ounce and the flavors are original, sugar free and blood punch which I am going to review today. The Talon Energy drink line is made by Fluid Motion Beverages for exclusive distribution at Circle K stores. So yeah they are pretty easy to find. If you are not sure where a Circle K is you can check the Talon Energy Drink website for directions to your nearest Circle K. Well enough fluff and onto the review of the Blood Punch Talon Energy Drink.

Talon Blood Punch Energy Drink Review: Taste
First off I would like to point out that the ingredient list contains "Natural Blood Orange Flavor." What is that? I don't know and I am not sure if I really want to find out. It's probably just some synthetic forumula with that name. So what does blood punch taste like. Well it doesn't taste like blood (no I don't drink blood, but I have had a fat lip or two), but it does taste like fruit punch. Actually a quite good fruit punch. It reminds me of Hawaiian Punch. There is no medicinal aftertaste at all, just a solid Hawaiian Punch tasting flavor. It's quite good. Taste Rating - 9.0

Talon Blood Punch Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well great fruit punch taste followed up by a pretty decent kick. Don't get me wrong, the kick was enjoyable and I could definitely feel it. But the 16 ounce version was just not enough to get me jumping through hoops. The 16 ounce version however does have 174 milligrams of caffeine, combined with 2000 milligrams of taurine, a healthy serving of B-Vitamins, and some Guarana extract (60 milligrams)which in itself should deliver a good kick. Maybe the kick was masked by the great fruit punch flavor? Most energy drinks taste like you are getting a great kick (medicinal aftertaste) whereas Blood Punch had no medicinal aftertaste at all. Now the 24 ounce version might be a different story as it has 261 milligrams of caffeine which is plenty to get you moving. Next time I get one of these I will probably opt for a 24 ounce version. Either way the kick was still pretty good. Kick Rating (16 ounce versions) - 8.8

Talon Blood Punch Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Hawaiian Punch flavored taste is superb and the kick is above average. I definitely enjoyed Blood Punch Talon, I would just recommend the 24 ounce version for those looking for a bigger pick me up. If you normally drink 8.4 Ounce RedBulls you will be more than satisfied with a 16 ounce Talon. In fact you will probably enjoy it more because it tastes a lot better than Red Bull. Final Judgment - 8.9

Fuel Cell Energy Shot Review

Fuel Cell Energy Shot
Cost:$2.25 - $2.95
Cost Per Ounce:$1.25 - $1.50
Active Ingredients:Caffeine, Green Tea Extract, B-Vitamins
Taste Rating:6
Kick Rating:9
Final Judgment Rating:7.5
Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Fuel Cell Energy Shot Review
Well I have tried several other Energy Shot's throughout my reviews here from 5 Hour Energy to Rocket Shot Energy Drink. Well today I will add another one to the books by giving the Canadian born 2 ounce Fuel Cell Energy Shot a try. I don't know too much about Fuel Cell besides that it is made and is readily available in Canada and that it is going to be introduced soon to the U.S market (currently available in Detroit).

Fuel Cell Energy Shot Review: Taste
Well first off most energy shot's don't taste that great as they have to cram a lot of energy ingredients into a tiny package. Fuell Cell does not seem to be an exception to this rule. The little 2 ounce sugar free energy shot does not have the greatest taste but if you drink it when it is ice cold and remember to shake it before hand it is not too bad. The taste is hard to describe, I think there was a hint of berry flavoring in there but I am not 100% on that. Being only 2 ounces is a definite plus because one quick slam and you are done with the exception of the medicinal aftertaste. But what do you expect when you cram all those ingredients into a tiny 2 ounce sugar free energy drink? I have yet to try an energy shot that was really great tasting. Even the original 5 Hour Energy Drink is much better tasting! Taste Rating - 6

Fuel Cell Energy Shot Review: Kick
Well the taste was not the greatest but the most important thing I look for in energy shots is the kick factor as that is what they are meant for. They are meant to be drank quickly for a nice kick and Fuel Cell does perform quite nicely in this category. I was told that there was 181 milligrams of caffeine. Combine that with some Green Tea Extract and some B-Vitamins and you got your self a hell of a lot of energy crammed into a tiny 2 ounce bottle. So yes the kick was pretty good and it was also fast acting. Kick Rating - 9.0

Fuel Cell Energy Shot Review: Final Judgment
For a 2 ounce energy shot the flavor is not all that bad and the kick is superb. If you are looking for a quick pick me up with out having to drink a huge energy drink than give Fuel Cell a try. I wil try to keep you updated on when this product has reached mass distribution in the U.S. Right now it is only available in detroit. Looks like they also have a website coming soon. Maybe they will give you the option to purchase online? Final Judgment - 7.5

Vim & Vigor Citrus Energy Drink Review
Well is has been quite awhile since I did the last Energy Drink Review on the berry flavoredVim & Vigor Energy Drink . I don't know why it took so long for me to get to the review of the citrus flavored Vim & Vigor. It must have got lost in the shuffle. Well if you don't remember the last review I can tell you one thing, Vim & Vigor is a very good tasting beverage that is kind of a cross between an energy drink and a gourmet soda. The drinks come in 12 ounce glass bottles and contain about 135 calories. Let's see if the citrus flavored Vim & Vigor is as good as the berry one!

Vim & Vigor Citrus Energy Drink Review: Taste
No doubt about it, the flavor is tremendous. There is no way you can tell you are actually consuming an energy drink. The flavor is citrus based yet it tastes more like a lemonade. In fact I would have to say that it tastes better than popular canned lemonade beverages like Country Time Lemonade. This would definitely make for a great mixer as well. Would probably mask the alcohol flavor pretty well. So if you are looking for one of the best tasting energy drinks out there, look no further than Vim & Vigor. You can't go wrong with either the berry or the citrus flavors. Taste Rating - 9.7

Vim & Vigor Citrus Energy Drink Review: Kick
The taste is superb, but unfortunately to get this good of a taste some energy ingredients must be sacrificed. The energy ingredient list is Caffeine, B-Vitamins, Guarana and Ginseng. There is a decent kick associated with this beverage but it is no greater than a kick you would get from drinking a Redbull. The only difference is that Vim & Vigor tastes a hell of a lot better. Kick Rating - 8.0

Vim & Vigor Citrus Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
I enjoyed both flavors of Vim & Vigor and I would probably place both in a top five best tasting energy drink list. Oh wait I do have a list for the Best Tasting Energy Drinks. If you check it out you will see that I added both flavors! In fact I hope they come out with more flavors for me to review. I would look forward to trying them. I also hope they can pick up some national distribution because the entire country deserves to see how good this beverage tastes. Sure it doesn't deliver the most powerful kick, but if you are looking for a quick pick me up without having to slam a medicinal tasting drink than Vim & Vigor is the way to go. Final Judgment 9.1

Dark Dog Energy Drink Review

Dark Dog Energy Drink
Cost: $
Cost Per Ounce:$0.
Active Ingredients:Caffeine (Guarana), Taurine, B-Vitamins
Taste Rating:8.0
Kick Rating:8.0
Final Judgment Rating:8.0
Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Dark Dog Energy Drink Review
Well today I got to try a European import called Dark Dog Energy Drink. It was originally developed and tested in Norway but is now available in over 25 countries and looks to still be expanding. This is not the first Energy Drink Review I have done of an overseas product and it probably won't be the last. I got to review the 8.4 ounce original Dark Dog today. Dark Dog also comes in a collectible aluminum bottle as well as a 11 ounce, 1 liter and 1.5 liter bottle. They also have lemon and orange flavors as well as a sugar free version of the original which I should be reviewing shortly. Enough fluff and onto the review.

Dark Dog Energy Drink Review: Taste
The flavor is not that original as far as today's energy drinks are concerned. However, Dark Dog has been around since 1999 making it one of the first out there. The flavor is really reminiscent of Red Bull as it has a citrus taste to it. However, as with most energy drinks that came after Red Bull, there is a noticeable improvement in disguising the medicinal aftertaste from all the energy ingredients. Dark Dog does do a pretty good job of this, although there is a slight aftertaste to the drink, but it is an improvement over Red Bull. Taste Rating - 8.0

Dark Dog Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well the energy ingredient list includes Guarana, Caffeine, Taurine and B-Vitamins making Dark Dog similar to Red Bull. They both contain 80 milligrams of caffeine and then include taurine, guarana and B-Vitamins. Dark Dog does use natural caffeine in the form of Guarana, which is supposed to be much better for you than the man made synthetic caffeine normally used in energy drinks. All that said, it basically has the same kick as Red Bull. Kick Rating - 8.0

Dark Dog Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Very similar product to Redbull with the exception of the improved taste (less medicinal aftertaste). The kick was decent but not on par with some of today's Strongest Energy Drinks. However, not everyone is looking for Maximum Caffeine. If you are looking for a nice boost comparable to Red Bull or your normal cup of coffee than give this drink a try. Final Judgment - 8.0

Energy Drink Review
Since Wired Energy Drinks have such a large variety of flavors I like trying a new one every week. I have done 8 different reviews of the Wired Energy Drinks so far which means I am about half way through there product line up. Yeah they have that many varieties. Last week I reviewed there big dog, the Wired X505 which is 23.5 ounces and contains 505 milligrams of caffeine. I liked having the big 23.5 ounce can so I decided to try another one of their flavors that they offer in the 23.5 ounce can. Today I will be reviewing Wired XBerry Rush.

Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well as the can states it comes in a berry flavor. The can doesn't lie, that is what it tastes like. However, the berry flavor is really strong. Not over the top but you can tell that it has more energy ingredients than the normal every day energy drink meaning that it has a slight medicinal aftertaste to it. That being said I still had no problem drinking the whole thing. 23.5 ounces is pretty big so I had half in the morning and half for lunch. That way I can say I only had one energy drink today! You can get a 12 pack of these big beverages for about $36.00 (which includes shipping). Taste Rating - 8.5

Energy Drink Review: Kick
Being almost 24 ounces I was expecting a big kick, just not from caffeine. That's right there is only 146 milligrams of caffeine (comparable to about two Redbulls). Wired XBerry rush does not emphasize caffeine content like the Wired X-505 does. No they cram a crap load of B-vitamins into this baby to give you the boost. How much b-vitamins? About 5000% of your daily allowance. Yeah that's a lot of B-Vitamins. So the combination of caffeine, B-Vitamins and taurine made for a great kick, not as great as the Wired X-505, but less scary. Kick Rating 9.0

Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Good taste, Big Kick, Good Price. You can get a 23.5 ounce can for about $3.00 which is a pretty good deal considering Red Bull is about $2.00 a can. If berry is not your flavor don't be shy, Wired has a ton of other flavors for you. Eventually I will review them all! Final Judgment - 8.7

Caffeine, College Students, the Media and My Rant

Caffeine Content and Media Attention (Rant)
Well not too long ago I used to be a college student so the memory of long nights and early morning cram sessions is still very clear in my memory. When combining going to class, studying, sports, group work and lets not forget the "Occasional" night out caffeine almost becomes your drug of choice. Caffeine and college students might start off with the occasional caffeinated soda or two. But as the school and work load gets bigger the caffeine content has to go up. That's were a lot of college students turn to Starbucks or the campus coffee hut. Well this was not the case for me as I was not a huge fan of coffee, cappuchino or anything else the overpriced Starbucks had to offer. I was into Energy Drinks. So yeah caffeine and college students goes hand and hand, but so does caffeine and energy drinks. Lately there has been an increase in the caffeine content of energy drinks and a blitz of negative attention from the media.

Caffeine Content
Gone are the days of the 8.4 slim line can of Redbull with 80 milligrams of caffeine in it. No only are the energy drinks increasing in size but so is the caffeine content as well. You have the real mainstream energy drinks such as Monster and Rockstar coming out with larger sized cans that are available everywhere and contain anywhere from 140 to 240 milligrams of caffeine, but you also have a new market of energy drinks coming out as well. Hardcore energy drinks are leading the way with caffeine contents from 280 milligrams all the way up to 505 milligrams (largest caffeine amount I know about). Thats where the negative attention from the media comes into lay as I have seen way to many headlines having to do with negatives of caffeine and energy drinks. You hear all sorts of attention in the media about these new hardcore energy drinks containing too much caffeine. Well lets put things in perspective. A 12 ounce cup of Starbucks coffee contains roughly 280 milligrams of caffeine and a 16 ounce cup of Starbucks coffee contains about 370 milligrams of caffeine. There's two Starbucks on every corner but you don't see the media lashing out at them for the caffeine content of their coffee. But the first time an energy drink approaches 300 milligrams of caffeine you have a newsworthy event.

Although I don't agree with all the negative attention from the media pertaining to caffeine content of energy drinks, there is one difference between Starbucks (or coffee in general) and energy drinks. Energy drinks are marketed more towards the younger crowd. If you want to see my stance on this read my Previous Article. Now don't get me wrong. More caffeine is not always the best solution for more energy. Some energy drinks have way to much
sugar which give you a spike of energy than a complete crash. Not a fan of those. However, some of the sugar-free or low sugar energy drinks with a lot of caffeine suit the purpose well.

Purpose of Caffeine Article?
So what is the purpose of this article? Well it started out as a caffeine and college students post, sidetracked into a caffeine content comparison between regular Starbucks coffee and energy drinks then veered again into a rant about negative comments from the media pertaining to energy drinks. So what was the purpose? Nothing really - just a rant! Nothing compared to a Dennis Miller rant, but still a rant. Post your comments or rant on about something pertaining to anything from the article.

Fruta Vida Energy Drink Review

Cost: $34.95 - One Month Supply
Cost Per Ounce:???
Active Ingredients:Yerba Mate, Acai and Capuacu
Taste Rating:7.0
Kick Rating:7.0
Final Judgment Rating:7.0
Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Fruta Vida Energy Drink Review
Alright I know what your thinking, Fruta Vita seems to be outside my normal scope of Energy Drinks that I review. To tell you the truth that was pretty much what I was thinking after I agreed to do a review of Fruta Vida. But I have been expanding the scope of my blog to less traditional energy drinks like hardcore energy drinks and coffee based energy drinks. So why not try Fruta Vida? It came in a tiny 1.5 fl ounce resealable plastic container and only has about 20 calories. So yeah I basically got a sample bottle but it seems to be the same serving size that you are supposed to take from the 30 ounce bottle. The 30 ounce bottle will run you about $34.95 with bulk discounts and promotions available. So it looks like the servings will be costing about $1.00 apiece. Fruta Vida also claims other health and weight loss benefits besides increased energy. I am not going to delve into any of those issues. If you want to read up more about the health or weight loss claims of Fruta Vida visit their site. Otherwise read on for how it performs in the taste and kick categories.

Fruta Vida Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well first off its a 1.5 ounce serving. I pretty much knew what I was in for in the taste category as it is usually pretty hard to cram a bunch of ingredients into a tiny bottle and make it taste good. As usual I was right. The initial berry like taste was not the greatest, although they made a pretty good effort. Not the greatest initial taste but surprisingly it did not come with any aftertaste. So once you got past the initial gulp of the 1.5 ounces and the 15 seconds of odd taste it was fine. Taste Rating 7.0

Fruta Vida Energy Drink Review: Kick
There really is not a whole lot of anything in here. This could be good or bad. Good because there are not a whole lot of long words in the ingredient list that I can't pronounce. Those long words usually are not good for you. Bad because I am not seeing a whole lot of energy ingredients. The only one I recognized was Yerba Mate which is a naturally occurring caffeine. Other than that Fruta Vida has a Nutraceutical called Acai berries. What's that? Basically an antioxidant to help boost the immune system. What does that have to do with energy? Well you have less energy when you are sick. The kick is not the greatest but it is not too shabby. Kick Rating - 7.0

Fruta Vida Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Well $34.95 will get you a one month supply of this product. It doesn't have the greatest taste and doesn't deliver the greatest kick. It does give you energy. But the health and dieting effects are what most people use it for. Final Judgment - 7.0

Beaver Buzz Saskatoon Berry Energy Drink Review
Well I reviewed the Big Beaver Buzz Energy Drink last month so it is about time I got around to reviewing another. So today I picked out the Saskatoon Berry flavor which is made in Canada. It comes in a 355 ml (12 ounce) can and comes with the company's "Dam Good" logo plastered on the bottom of the blue can. This would be my second Canadian Energy Drink Review. So let's get to it eh!

Beaver Buzz Saskatoon Berry Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well I knew I was in for a berry flavor; hence the name Saskatoon Berry. But I did not know that it would be this good. With no medicinal aftertaste at all and has a very sweet berry flavor which makes you think you are drinking an actual juice instead of an energy drink. Well that's how smooth the flavor is. It tastes like a berry juice with a bit of carbonation. So yeah the taste is "Dam Good." Taste Rating 9.0

Beaver Buzz Saskatoon Berry Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well there seems to be a strong showing of energy ingredients in this drink with about 160 milligrams of caffeine (if my calculations are correct) followed up by 145 milligrams of guarana extract (natural caffeine) along with about 1500 milligrams of taurine and a bunch of B-Vitamins. Yeah it really has all those energy ingredients. You wouldn't know it by just tasting it as it goes down pretty "Dam" smooth. Kick Rating - 8.5

Beaver Buzz Saskatoon Berry Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
The berry flavor is smooth and sweet and the kick is pretty "Dam" good. The only downside, which I mentioned in the last review of Beaver Buzz. Is that they only seem to be available in Canada. If you see it elsewhere let everyone know, eh! Final Judgment - 8.7

Speed Freak Fruit Punch Energy Drink Review

Speed Freak Fruit Punch Energy Drink Review
Well today I will be reviewing the Fruit Punch version of Speed Freak. This drink does not fall into the conventional type of energy drink that I normally review. However, I have reviewed drinks like Redline, Fixx and Xtreme Shock which really fall into the hardcore energy drink category. Regardless, the previous drinks I tried above all give really big kicks, so I am hoping for the same from the Speed Freak energy drink. Besides being an energy drink Speed Freak is also supposed to be a themogenic fat burner. I won't be reviewing those claims in this post as I will only be trying one so I will have no way of measuring any results. That being said let's move on to the actual review. I will be using Speed Freak in the gym as that seems to be what it is meant for. I will take half before my workout and half after.

Speed Freak Fruit Punch Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well first off this drink as I stated above is a hardcore energy drink with thermogenic fat loss properties. It is 10.5 ounces and contains 20 calories. That being said the Fruit Punch flavor was pretty well rounded and pretty strong at the same time. It had a good initial taste but it did however leave you with a slight aftertaste which in itself was not bad, but you could notice it. Then again it was early in the morning and taste is subjective. Taste Rating - 7.2

Speed Freak Fruit Punch Energy Drink Review: Kick
Well the taste was decent, now let's see how Speed Freak performs in the ever important kick category. Since it was designed for the hardcore athlete I decided to test it out in the gym. I had the first half on the way to the gym (15 minutes prior). The initial energy boost seemed to kick in rather quick. Even at 6:00 in the morning I felt the boost. Where is the boost coming from? Well I did recognize caffeine and taurine in the ingredient list and I am told there is 200 milligrams of caffeine per 10.5 ounce serving. There is also Yohimbine which is supposed to help with fat loss. The kick lasted throughout the workout and I did not have to drink the 2nd half until right before lunch time. No jitters, crash or cramps which is good when picking an energy drink to workout with. Kick Rating - 9

Speed Freak Fruit Punch Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Decent taste, strong kick with no crash or jitters. Overall not too bad for a hardcore energy drink. It gave me the extra boost I needed for an early morning workout at the gym. Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Vegas Fuel Energy Drink Review
Well the Vegas Fuel Energy Drink definitely has an appealing 8.4 ounce slim can and a cool slogan "Put a Little Vegas in You." They are owned and distributed by One Beverage, LLC. It looks like this is the only flavor that is currently being marketed. The 8.4 ounce Vegas Fuel Energy drink retails from $1.19 to $1.49, making it a pretty good deal if it holds up in the review. Other than those few tidbits this is all I really know about Vegas Fuel. So let's see how it holds up in the review!

Vegas Fuel Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well first off the flavor of this beverage seems to be rather unique. I can not pin point the exact flavor, but it seems to be some kind of tropical berry blend that tastes pretty good. I did not have any medicinal aftertaste after finishing Vegas Fuel, so the energy ingredients seem to be blended quite well. I would imagine this would make a great mixer as well. Looks like they have several interesting drink recipes on there site. I did not personally try any of them but the flavor of this drink would go well with their suggestions. There is one downfall as the drink itself contains 110 calories so it would also be nice if they could add a low carb low calorie version of this drink. If they could keep the taste the same and lower the calories that would be great. Party all night calories free! Taste Rating 8.9

Vegas Fuel Energy Drink Review: Kick
Another slogan that this beverage has is "Push the Envelope, do Vegas Right." Well this drink is on par with other energy drinks in this category (non-hardcore) and delivers a pretty decent kick. There may be only 75 milligrams of caffeine, but when combined with 50 milligrams of both Guarana and Ginseng extract as well as a host of B-Vitamins and 1000 milligrams of taurine, you get a pretty decent kick. Well not the strongest energy drink out there it would definitely serve the purpose of helping you stay out later in Vegas. Besides if this drink had tons of caffeine it might make you jittery, which in turn might affect your card play. Who wants to be all jittery and fidgety when playing Texas hold'em. That would be the last thing I would want on the turn! Kick Rating - 8.4

Vegas Fuel Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
Definitely a fun drink. Taste is great, kick is pretty good. For $1.19 to $1.49 it is a pretty good deal. Looks like the will be picking up distribution in Speedway convenience stores. Looks like they are expanding their distribution outside of Vegas which is good. I wouldn't mind kicking back during a game of Hold'em and having a Vegas Fuel. Final Judgment - 8.7

Energy Drink Ratings Explained

Wired X505 Energy Drink Review
I have done several reviews on the Wired Energy Drink Line and last month I tried the Wired X344 which has 344 milligrams of caffeine crammed into 16 ounces which turns out to be about 21.5 milligrams per ounce and packs one hell of a mean kick. Today I have the pleasure of reviewing X-344's mutant brother - The Wired X-505. Why do I say mutant brother? If you really need to know skip down to the "kick" review and you will find out pretty fast. I'll give you a hint. Wired Energy Drinks has pushed the caffeine envelope as far as I have ever seen it pushed. Are you excited yet? I know I am. Onto the review!

Wired X505 Energy Drink Review: Taste
Well first off the taste is pretty much the same as the Wired X-344 meaning it has a citrus base to it with maybe a hint of orange flavor. Now there is a hint of medicinal aftertaste to the drink. However, it is nothing to cringe over and it is still probably better than the aftertaste you get from let's say a Red Bull. Even with a slight aftertaste Wired X505 is still enjoyable. Since the X505 is 23.5 ounces, yes that's right its huge, I drank this in two sittings - one in the early morning and one after lunch. Why did I drink this in two sittings? Was it because I could not stand the taste? No that was definitely not the reason. Read the kick review to find out why I drank this in two sittings. Taste Rating - 8.7

Wired X505 Energy Drink Review: Kick
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. I have been building up anticipation for the kick review for the last couple paragraphs. But why? Well this is by far the strongest energy drink I have yet to drink. This mutant has 505 milligrams of caffeine in it. No thats not a typo. That's right 505 milligrams of caffeine. Combine that with 4400 milligrams of taurine (Redbull has about 1000 milligrams) and a ton of B-vitamins and.... I am speechless. Compare that to Redbull at about 80 milligrams of caffeine per serving. That means you would have to drink about 6.5 Redbulls to equal one Wired X-505. And that answers your question as to why I drank this in two sittings. I try all different kinds of energy drinks every day. This is the first that I did not drink in one single sitting. Was I scared? A little. But drinking this mutant bad boy in two sittings gave me a TON of energy. If you drink one of these and feel you need another energy drink let me know. I'll give you a medal. Kick Rating - 10 (only because that is as high as my scale will let me go). Screw it. It's my scale I am giving the damn drink a Kick Rating of 11 and adding in the #1 spot of my Strongest Energy Drink list.

Wired X505 Energy Drink Review: Final Judgment
The taste is pretty good. The kick is off the scale (literally) and the price of $2.99 is unbelievable for what you get. If you have been buying two or three energy drinks throughout the day stop wasting your money (or give it to me). You only need one of these mutant energy drinks to get you through the day. Just be careful when drinking the X505. Heed the warning on the can and drink plenty of water to offset this massive amount of caffeine. Final Judgment 9.9!
